What should I know about applying for a covid-related extension in Thailand?

Thanks to the admins for updating us on the new regulations about covid extension.

After reading today's post, I went to the immigration to apply for a second extension right away. I am here on a visa exemption 30 days stamp and I still have 32 days before the end of my current extension but the officer agreed to proceed today cause they don't know what's gonna happen next.

I asked for a 30 days extension (for tourists) since I'm flying out in march but the officer said they can't do that one anymore as per yesterday's announcement, so I got the 60 days covid extension ( actually I got the under examination stamp).

Hope all of this makes sense and doesn't sound too confusing, I just wanted to share my experience and be thankful to those who updated us all regarding the new circumstances.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their recent experience applying for a COVID-related visa extension in Thailand. Despite being on a 30-day visa exemption with 32 days remaining, the immigration officer allowed the user to apply for an extension due to uncertainties regarding future regulations. The officer could not grant a regular 30-day tourist extension, so the user received a 60-day COVID extension under examination. The user expresses gratitude for the updates on regulations and emphasizes the importance of following up at the immigration office.

congrats on getting the covid under consideration stamp. just make sure you go back to that office on the date in the passport to get the 'loop closed' and get the extension inked in.

What if someone has the Covid under consideration stamp but leaves the country before the date to return to the Immigration office? Is there any problem when leaving the country before the date you are supposed to go back to Immigration?

under consideration is essentially a permission to stay until that date, so of course you are free to leave Thailand anytime before that date.

that’s not a problem. The “under consideration” stamp is like a temporary allowed to stay stamp. You can leave before the date you were due to return.

You don't have to worry about returning date to close under-consideration stamp if you leave Thailand before or on that date. Just leave.

can I just ask (maybe I misunderstand the post)

Did he "not" get the 30 day extension because they're not offering a 30 day option for the "covid" extension?

It sounds like OP wanted the standard "30 day for 1900 baht extension" one uses to extend when they come -- which has allllways been standard issue (1x only)

The latter option hasn't been removed, has it?

okay just so you understand the 1900 baht 30-day extension is only a 1 time thing

That's why you didn't get it. It had nothing to do with the changes yesterday

If the covid extension had not been renewed, you would've had to leave 100% by the end of your 32 days.

Lucky for you 😉🤗

I asked for a 30 days "standard" extension since that's all I need as I'm flying out in march. I was given a 60 days "covid" extension because - I was told - as per yesterday's announcement they don't do 30 days "standard" extensions anymore. It doesn't make any difference to me, I just reported FYI.

my post does sound a little confusing 😅

whoa

But wait, you already used 1 covid extension right??

You said you came in as "visa exempt" for your original trip... That only allows 30 days

You say in the post you have 32 days until the current extension expires

Soo, did you already take 1 extension?

Usually, if you apply for a tourism extension for the second time, you will get 7-days-to-leave-the-country aka application denied stamp. But this time, IO gave him a Covid extension.

That's why IO granted him a Covid extension. No second tourism extension.

, It can be believed that OP got a "standard" 30days tourism extension already because he still has 32 days left with his current "extension" stamp <- and this is more than the first stamp. There is no second 30days tourism extension. The only available option for OP currently is a 60days extension based on being unable to travel due to the Covid situation.

yeah, I think so too

Thanks

I couldn't see them erasing the standard extension lol, it has always existed and has nothing to do with covid
