Today was my first entry on a DTV visa through Phuket. A 40-minute interrogation at passport control: they checked the bank, client invoices , the rental agreement, and counted cash. They let me through alone, but two others are apparently being deported.
Answer summary
The user's experience upon entering Thailand with a DTV visa through Phuket involved a thorough review by immigration officials, including checks of financial documents and cash. While the user was allowed through, others faced deportation, raising concerns about stricter regulations for DTV visa holders. Commenters discussed the intense scrutiny for first-time entries and the importance of having all necessary documentation prepared to avoid issues.

'but two others are apparently being deported'. Are the other two also DTV holders?

When you have problems entering a country, understand what your passport country is. Its what it is, and will be for tens of years to come

Phuket and the other islands have a PR mess to contain about foreigners living there in villas and creating their own exclusive communities, including illegal work (childcare centres etc.) especially those from Israel and Russia/Ukraine. This is well known now. It will impact all long term foreigners who do not have a Work Permit until this spotlight moves somewhere else. This is not something to be alarmed about every day/week in this forum.

Thank you for sharing this. Phuket is known to be very strict now for DTV first entry. They want to be sure your remote work and money are real. Checking bank, invoices, rental and cash is what they do when they are not sure. If you have all papers clear they let you through, but if papers are weak they can send people back.

For next entry it will be easier because you already have a record. Always keep your DTV print, bank statement for last three months, invoices or work contract, rental agreement and some cash or proof you can support your stay. Keep them in a folder so you can show fast. Officers respect when you are ready and calm.

Stories like yours show why it is good to be prepared. I found a very useful checklist for first entry and what Phuket officers ask in Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it tells you what to print and how to answer. It helps many DTV holders avoid long checks.

I've come to realize that it doesn't matter how many people share these experiences or how much evidence someone provides; there will be always be others in this group calling a post BS just because it differs from their own experience. Thank you for sharing your experience. It also happened to me and I will never fly into Phuket again.

The truth is people are getting denied entry on the daily basis, it is normal and yes it is happening. It is absolutely normal, I just don’t understand why everyone is freaking out when someone posts this Having a visa does not grant you entry in a country. Everyone should just have his legit, comply to the visa requirements and nothing can happen, it’s as simple as that
X *************
I laughed when I read the response. It never happened to me then it’s not true while others are posting similar things happen to them. My question. Many DTV visa are supposed to have legit jobs, but how come many can’t afford flights out every 6 months and do land borders? It seems to me a bunch of failing influencers have gotten them visa and try hard to stay to get legal weed. 2 worst things that brought bad tourists. DTV visa, legal weed. Get rid of both and Thailand will be a better place.

What the heck thats crazy, they are deporting people who arrived on a visa that they got approved for, while letting in random tourist left and right without any checks at all?

Is this real? If you have a valid Dtv visa already then what is there for them to check? I’ve been on the Dtv for over 2 years now and flew in and out of Thailand maybe 6-7 times since and never had a single question, just a new stamp every time?

a visa isn’t a guaranteed entry, it never has been on any country. People assume they have a visa and a right of entry. They don’t.

a visa does not grant you entry in a country, the Immigration always has the last word. They are entitled to check if you are a legit DTV holder and if you fulfill the visa requirements like being enrolled in soft power course or being a remote worker, 500k in your account…

@Grant ******
Just like ANY other foreigner, Immigration can check if you are eligible to enter the country, that is their task.

DTV is not some special free entry pass as some here seem to think.

It is only telling Immigration how many days you get stamped in when you want to enter the country.

It's the disconnect between the MFA who created the visa and the immigration department that never wanted it in the first place and have been lumped into enforcing it. A 5 year visa that doesn't have regular checks after being issued unlike other visas. And people are finding out yes, some IOs at some airports do check. especially at Phuket airport and especially if you are doing Muay Thai. Thank you OP for using a real name.
Luit *****************

@Ho *****
Correct, but even when MFA would have created the visa connected with Immigration, the task of IO at entrrance of the country is to check foreigners, with and without visa.
Greg ******
Greg ******
@Grant ******
It's a 5-year visa, issued by the MFA, and unlike most other visa types, you're not checked by immigration every year when extending your stay. Even the Non-immigrant visas are sometimes subject to checks when crossing the borders (as for the ED). What if you apply with a legitimate 9 months Muay Thai and then start working illegally in Thailand later on?! Checking if you're a legitimate holder at the border is part of their job and nothing new here in Thailand.

Not deported, rather denied entry. It's not the same, to be deported you need to have entered the country first.

Anyways, this isn't really news neither for Phuket or Chiang Mai airports. If you want to guarantee a smooth entry, use either Don Mueang or Suvarnabhumi airports.
