Anyone having / had problems with visa approval in Taiwan after an interview? My partner had to attend an interview yesterday and the website hasn't been updated, we phoned and they said the supervisor is still making a decision. We have a flight on Saturday but only a few hours to rebook it.

Interesting that they booked an interview on December 10th which was a Thai holiday.

Did they bring anything up in the interview of concern? I found them to be direct with any points of concern during my interview there. Dec 10 is national holiday which may be a reason for update delay,.

I think the concern came from the fact that my partner has most of her finances in term deposits rather than a standard bank account. She has way more money than the required amount, but the array of term deposit accounts I think was confusing to them. She also works in TV and film whilst I work as a civil engineer so my job is much more mainstream and easier to understand. Overall I think they found her confusing. The interview was okayish, I think she won them over in the end, but many questions were asked.

generally speaking term deposits are not acceptable, they want to see instant access accounts. If the term deposits can be terminated early, even with a penalty, they might be acceptable

TDs would be a stumbling block for sure; Taipei is very much about personal bank account statements with highlighted income. They do make exceptions though as i know some out of the norm applicants approved there, having explained themselves in the interview.

that would be good. It is a bit unfortunate that being a savy saver has made her application more complicated. Hopefully we will get an update soon.

The funds have to be in instant accessible accounts, so whilst it is smart having TDs, the staff view it as illiquid at first glance. I assume she has monthly maturing TDs which will be of greater benefit than yearly TDs. Yeah, i think you will hear soon.

problem?

you applied, got an interview and now a supervisor is considering the final decision.

I guess the problem was that you booked a flight out to early.

we probably had the wrong expectations, from what we read we were expecting a quick turnaround. We both applied on the 2nd December, submitted additional documents on the 3rd. I got mine approved on the 8th whilst my partner got a request for an interview the same day for the 10th. I think a national holiday on the Friday probably slowed things down.
