TLDR : Answer Summary
If your visa application requires a flight number before you've booked your flight, you can search for available flights on the dates you're considering and obtain the flight number without making a reservation. Use that flight number when filling out your application.

You don't actually need to book a flight to get the flight number. Search the flight you want and make a note of the flight number

Find a flight that matches when you think you want to go. Get the flight number. Put it in the application.
