I m due to return to the uk on Qatar airlines in 3 weeks , due to the unrest in the Middle East can someone give me an update on what I need to do thank you
Summary so far
The situation regarding flights in the Middle East has created uncertainty for travelers, particularly for those due to fly with Qatar Airways in three weeks. Various commenters suggest staying updated with your airline, as current airspace closures and flight cancellations make it difficult to predict if flights will operate as scheduled. Many advise checking directly with the airline for the latest updates, considering booking alternate flights if necessary, and being prepared to adapt travel plans. The collective sentiment emphasizes caution and the need for travelers to monitor the situation closely.

Just found out that immigration will give you 7 days to leave the country so if things don’t change visit your IO 48 hours before your intended departure and request the 7 days having said that they may well make an announcement regarding those who cannot get flights home
John **********
John **********
@Ossie ********
that 7 days is actually an extension denied stamp, so you go to immigration & apply for an extension and if they accept your application you pay 1900 baht and get 7 days in which you MUST leave the country
Ossie *********
Ossie *********
@John *********
yes I know maybe I worded it wrong there is hopefully a chance that the IO might announce something as they did with Covid

If you want to be sure to leave get another flight via China. I have to return to Thailand next Tuesday without fail so unfortunately had to just pay out and booked in China eastern from.London to bkk via shanghai. Was the only way I could try and make sure i get back to Thailand next week.

My flight was next Tues but no idea if it will go,even if the airspace is open it could take a few weeks to get the operation running to schedule again. Will be chaos I think for a few weeks after airports even open

Ring your airline at Suvarnabhumi nearer the time, no one on here would know anymore than you do, google your airline Suvarnabhumi number and give them a ring a couple of days before your flight date.
Justin *********
Justin *********
I think you really have two questions: how can you get home, and how can you extend your visa here if you can’t (or easily get to another country if extension isn’t an option).

For getting home, contact the airline — who will probably tell you it’s too soon to have an answer — and check to see whether you can reschedule the flight to a later date, exchange it for a flight with one of their partners that’d route in a way that wouldn’t be impacted by the war, or just get a refund. Pushing back your flight date might be the easiest thing for them to do, and then you could probably go to immigration to extend your visa (if you haven’t already). Trying to book a different flight might be quite expensive as fuel costs surge.

If you don’t have the luxury of spending another 30 days in Thailand, start looking for other flight options now, so you’ll at least have a sense of what’s currently possible and what it might cost. See if any of the airlines are partners of Qatar Airlines, in which case maybe Qatar can help you at least get some credit for your existing ticket.

I think airlines like Qatar and Etihad were especially responsive during COVID, so the customer service infrastructure they built up for responding to massive disruptions should be pretty capable. They’ve also been dealing with conflict-related disruptions for years. This may be the biggest in quite a while, but they’ll still have a playbook for it.

Depending on which booking site you used, check to see if it’s still possible to get insurance for your flight. Some credit cards also have built-in insurance for travel purchases. That might add another layer of options, or make them more affordable.

Good luck!

John Dworecki oh man, I’m sorry. Ok, it looks like the cheapest option in three weeks is to go through China for about $320 (not counting the extra bs the airlines always hit us with for checked bags):
*********************************************************

So, depending on how *that* compares to what you paid for your existing flight (once you double check the actual date you need and the extra brutality of baggage fees), maybe just book that and get a refund on the Qatar flight, either through the airline or your card.
John **********
John **********
OP
Justin Bernold 3 hours trying the Qatar airline and no one picked up
Justin *********
Justin *********
John Dworecki if you’re in Bangkok now, I think they also have a physical office in the Exchange Tower near the Sukhumvit/Asok station. I expect they’ll have a bit of a line, and they’re probably having a brutal day (and maybe also worrying about friends and colleagues and loved ones in the region), so if you go there in person, be patient and gentle.
Justin *********
Justin *********
John Dworecki yeah, that’s to be expected right now. Maybe try using their online chat. That might let you interact via queue, instead of in real time. (That said, back during Covid, some airlines couldn’t even manage that. Singapore Airlines never gave me a refund for a flight they canceled, and even the credit card I’d used was so overwhelmed with customer service calls that *they* couldn’t process a dispute! Luckily, it was just a cheap budget flight, but the grr remains.)

In the meantime, if you look at their frequent flyer program, you can see who their partners are. Check to see if any of them fly on the same day, and route through Singapore or Seoul or Taiwan or Tokyo, and maybe you can speed things along by asking if Qatar can rebook you on those specific partner flights. And call your credit card to ask about refund strategies, too. You might not want to push for a refund yet — there’s still some time for things to develop — but if there’s an affordable alternate route available right now, then maybe you do want to be positioned to pounce.

How many Days do you have remaining on your current Entry Stamp??

What is your Until End Date of your Current Entry Stamp??

Did you make Entry into Thailand again on a Free Visa Exempt Stamp ( ผ.60–ม.17 ) or did you obtain and have a Tourist E–Visa PDF File from the Thai Embassy in London ( Entry Stamp denotes: TR–60 ) and, if so, then was it a Single Entry Tourist E–Visa (SETV) or Multiple Entry Tourist E–Visa (METV) from the Thai Embassy in London??
