What should a U.S. passport holder expect when entering Thailand with Visa Exempt status?

I’m a U.S. passport holder (I have an Onward Tix + Cash to meet req. to stay).

I’ve never used the “Visa Exempt” option before as my stays have been lengthy. So what forms do I fill out to enter Thailand? Or how does the process work….Typically I either have a TR visa or use the Visa on Arrival option….So what do I do differently when entering through “VISA EXEMPT”?

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
As a U.S. passport holder entering Thailand under the Visa Exempt option, you will not need to complete any specific forms upon entry. You will simply present your passport at immigration, where you will receive a 30-day stamp. It's important to remember that unlike the Visa on Arrival option, which involves filling out an application and paying a fee, the Visa Exempt entry is straightforward and requires no additional paperwork. However, it is advisable to have your onward flights and accommodation details readily available, as immigration officers may ask for them.

Make sure to keep your last boarding pass. My last time in, officer asked to see my hotel booking. I've been asked to show hotel booking a couple of times.

Turn up, show your passport, they'll stamp you for 30 days and let you on your way

There used to be a tm6 form, but that has been scrapped for the time being

on my incoming flight last week they were asking "holidaymakers" to fill out the TM6.

that’s very strange the TM6 has been suspended for about a month now. I entered recently there were no forms available and they did not ask.

I thought it odd too, they didn't define "holidaymakers" but did exclude long term visa holders (which they called residents so I had to clarify)

You cannot enter Thailand as "Visa on arrival" as a US passport holder. It is now and always has been visa exempt. Visa exempt means you have NO VISA at all, you just enter and get a 30 day stamp. There aren't any forms.

Visa on arrival means you fill out an application, get into a special line, and PAY for a visa good for 15 days. I doubt you've ever gotten visa on arrival.
