I'm from the US and will enter Thailand from the Philippines and get a tourist visa on arrival. Question: is a return or onward ticket required to enter Thailand?

Also, is health insurance required. If so, what are the policy requirements?

Answer summary

When entering Thailand from the Philippines, a return or onward ticket is typically required by airlines, though immigration may not always ask for it. US passport holders do not need a tourist visa on arrival; instead, they can enter visa-exempt for up to 30 days. Currently, there are no health insurance requirements for entering Thailand as a tourist.

You cannot get a tourist visa on arrival.

You can only get a tourist visa by applying from a Thai consulate before traveling to Thailand.

US passport holders are eligible for visa exempt entry which means NO VISA at all.

While immigration can ask to see your flight out of Thailand they rarely do. More often it's going to be your airline that will not let you board without proof of leaving Thailand within the number of days you'll receive at arrival, which is 30 with visa exempt.

There's currently no insurance requirement to enter as a tourist.

Thai immigration may not ask for a return or onward ticket, but your airline may insist. I flew from the Philippines to Thailand without a return or onward ticket and I wasn't asked for anything. FYI, I'm a non-US passport holder.
