I’m currently in the process of renewing my Work Permit, and I’m worried they might only give me a 6-month permit instead of a one-year one.

Do you know, for example, if they grant me a 6-month Work Permit, how long my Non-B visa would normally be valid for? I also need to renew my Non-B visa soon.
Answer summary
The validity period of a Non-B visa is generally tied to the terms of the work permit and the employment contract. If granted a 6-month work permit, the Non-B visa may vary based on your current immigration status and the details of your employment. It's crucial to inform immigration about any changes, such as the cancellation of a work permit, and to follow the rules regarding extensions and renewals. Discussions indicate that if one follows proper procedures, there are provisions for up to 7 days to exit the country after a permit is canceled.

I know nothing about work permits as when I asked immigration on a 90 day check visit, all they said was " very difficult" do you mind if I ask where do you work in Thailand?

you have a 1-year extension of stay based on employment, and your work permit is active and not cancelled, yet. Just get your next 1-year EoS but show them the reduced time on your work contract. Immigration will issue the Extension according to the finishing date of your employment. Before day X, visit Labour Office, cancel the work permit, then you have two options: leave Thailand and let your extension become invalid (which I do not recommend !) or (better!) visit Immigration, cancel your stay permit, and if you need a little bit more time to pack up, ask them for the stamp "application of extension of stay denied, you have 7 days to leave the kingdom" (which would cost you an unneccesary 1900 Baht)

They will give you a work permit for as long as your contract.

I don't understand your post. The labor office follows the terms of your contract and the documents supporting your application for the work permit. So you have to check your documents and maybe speak to your employer.

I'm guessing from the way you've worded this that you're not on a visa at all but you are actually on an extension of stay. So to answer based on that, when you apply for the extension you actually sign a form stating that you will inform immigration if your circumstances change. So it doesn't matter how long of an extension they give you, when your work permit finishes you have to inform immigration and immediately leave the country. If you know it's going to happen you can cancel both in advance but you still need to leave by the day the cancellation comes into effect.

yes you are supposed to cancel your work permit, cancel your extension of stay and leave the country all in the same day. which is crazy

Dante I think you get 7 days to exit if I remember

@Da***
that's why you can do it in advance, so you can manage your departure

it is also only possible to do in advance if you have a letter from your employer and if you are not leaving on perfect terms they might not give you one

i’m not trying to argue and my point isn’t really with you, it is with people who get high and mighty about following every law in Thailand 100% of the time when the reality is the system is set up to make that impossible with so many things

but then you are working illegally between when your work permit is cancelled but your NON-B is still active
