I am looking to relocate to Thailand permanently. Any recommendations or advice on process or visas?
Answer summary
Relocating to Thailand permanently requires understanding the various visa options suitable for your situation. Key options include the Non-Immigrant O (NON-O) visa for retirees, a long-term residence (LTR) visa for wealthier individuals, and a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for remote workers. Consulting with the Thai embassy in your country or hiring a visa agent can simplify the process. It's also suggested to research locations and living conditions before making a decision, as well as considering health insurance and local culture during your stay.

If it is possible for you, you will find your way. Monitor facebook groups similar to this one for some great information and ideas. YouTube has some great videos. Some not so great. Learn, learn, learn.

Good luck and wish you success.

Why don’t you try a little research on your own. Like google or AI. You gave no information for anyone to be able to help you. Try these two links.

Without knowing more about you and what you want to achieve by the move you're not going to get any useful answers. Are 50 or older? Are you looking to work in Thailand, if so what skills do you have? Do you have an existing job you can perform remotely from Thailand? Any other helpful information you can share?

Guess you been here on holiday? Living permanently is very different unless you have unlimited funds.

First you age, to know what visa is available for you?

The location your looking at, a condo or house? And options on health insurance.

Unless you know these answers id suggest you come here for 3 month and do some research before taking the step of moving

Well as many say when they want to move, where to live?

So first step is to find a place, if not sure then travel around to different places and don’t buy anything until you absolutely sure.

In end, rent or buy is the question.

Second is to live full time or divide the year between home and Thailand.

Don’t worry about visa or use agents for do something you actually need to know your self.

Yes do it smoothly from beginning and use agent to understand the culture with immigration and the paperwork.

After that it’s easy, took me 4 months to decide, and soon to be 12 years.

It depends a lot on your assets and your level and source of income, as well as age.

If you are 50 or over, then a retirement visa is probably the best option.

There is the DTV but that is not permanent but will give you some years. Mostly for remote workers and digital nomads. Basically you get 5 years out of it. Minimum funds of ฿500,000.

Various long term residence options are available including LTR, which is for wealthier people and gives 10 years of residency. Some categories require minimum $80,000 a year income. The visa costs ฿50,000.

The Thailand Privilege Visa gives you between 5 and 20 years, depending on the package you buy. They come at some cost ฿650,000 to ฿5,000,000.

Get a Visa agent... will save so much time and stress. I don't do anything immigration related without using my agent

Lennart Johansson Because I place a high value on my time. A reasonable cost and it's just a part of relocating to Thailand. It's the smart thing to do....outsource tasks that others are more expert. I get no satisfaction from doing it myself.

Young yes, life is short, but most people moving to Thailand mostly just killing time. Alcohol, bargirls, beaches, food and shopping… that is a lot of vaste of time…

Thailand is best for having a good time at vacations…

Graham Seal I recommend getting an agent because it works so well for me. Saves time because I can do other things instead of waiting in line. Plus the repeated paperwork is retained by my agent so I don't have to mess with it.

Sylvia Corley I live in Bangkok and it's the retirement Visa.

Lennart Johansson My days are very full... my business research projects, travel to my home country and other SE Asian countries 6 times per year, new restaurants to investigate, looking to visit every skybar in the city, restarting my golfing, neighborhoods to discover, etc. I'm never needing to kill time!

Lennart Johansson a lot of time? really? as a retiree, I do not think that I have a lot of time left. Life is really short. 😂

Lennart Johansson nobody wants to retire to stand in line. And obviously, bringing 800k to bring to sit in a Thai bank doing nothing isn’t the smartest financial decision

That's fine, your choice but why, when anyone asks for advice, do you say "get an agent"? Many people deal with Immigration without any issues, ok, it takes some time but so does getting the same paperwork assembled for an agent too so not saving you so much time?

what location are you thinking of? Different agents, different prices and requirements in different cities. Also what type of visa?

it takes not long time to fix your self. If you plan for living in Thailand, you have a lot of time to kill anyway. 😂😂
