TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Non-O visa from the UK, you can apply online through the official Thai e-visa website. It is essential to check the requirements listed on the Thai Embassy's website in London, particularly for retirement visas. The application generally takes around 5 days if the paperwork is correctly submitted, but be prepared to provide additional information like an outward bound flight detail. The Non-O visa application can be found under the 'other visas' category on the site. Initially, you apply for a 90-day visa and plan to open a bank account in Thailand to later apply for a one-year extension.

when you go the visa site the Non O visa is actually under the “other visas” link… then look for the retirement option…
You are actually applying for a 90 day visa which you will then open a bank account in Thailand and then apply for a year extension.. hope that makes sense now
I didn't apply for the non OA visa when I came to Thailand, so I am not an expert (I got the non O visa, so didn't need insurance).
I think to get the non OA you would need to show your insurance policy and if declined (unlikely) you would have wasted your money.
