People here on ED Visa - Questions....

I am currently on a 1 year ED (Thai Language) visa and into my second month.

Every 3 months I have to go in for an extension. Coming up now on my first one and wanted to see who has recently done this and what the process was like. Did they ask you a lot of questions, doing any tests, etc.

I will be doing so at Immigration in Khon Kaen.

Thank in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for extending an ED (Thai Language) visa involves submitting documentation from your language school, which includes attendance records and possibly photos. While there is usually no formal testing at the immigration office, you may interact in Thai with the officer. Experiences vary by location; for example, attendees in Chiang Mai reported lengthy wait times and straightforward processing. It’s advisable to check with fellow expats or local Facebook groups for tailored advice based on your specific immigration office.

And ask your school what to expect at extension time....if you have attended classes and studied...you will probably do just fine.

Good luck...

At Chiang Mai the process is simple. Unfortunately the wait times are horrendous, arrived 6am, finished at 2pm.

I hand over the school paperwork with 1900 baht paperclipped and passport (and 2 x photos), I greet IO in Thai and Wei, then stand for 15 minutes of processing.

Photo taken and told to sit down for anything upto an hour whilst your passport gets a second signature by a higher ranked IO.

Simple but time consuming.

did you have to do an exam at the ministry of education?

and this was exactly why I said post your post on an expat in isaan f/b group or one related to specifically where you live because of the fact that this group has people from ALL over thailand and each immigration office (of which there are over 70) do things differently.

Just got the 1st extension today.

is correct. Next to all paperwork the language school compiled a complete documentation about attendance including photos plus a written test. No interview at the immigration.

Nope. Chiang Rai.

and you got your first extension on your ED visa from the thai immigration office in Khon Kaen or just sharing ed extension info in general :)

I think you might get better results posting on an Expat in Isaan f/b group though..

thanks! Was hoping to see some first hand advise if anyone has recently been through it lately.

As a general rule, you turn in the documentation from your school showing your attendance, the hours you studied per day etc, and while the immigration officer might chat to you in thai some (especially IF you're supposed to be learning thai) there is no official testing at the immigration office.
