🇹🇭 My DTV experience applying from Australia – Chilean passport 🇨🇱

Sharing my process in case it helps someone:

● 17 Aug: I submitted my DTV application from Australia under the freelancer/remote worker category. (I attached my professional portfolio, work experience, freelance work, university degree, financial statements, and my Australian/VEVO visa. My Australian student visa expired on August 31st.)

● 26 Aug: The Thai Embassy in Canberra asked for my ABN and a new photo. My ABN showed as cancelled, so I explained the situation and uploaded proof that I had applied for a new one.

● 27 Aug: They asked for a letter confirming current remote work, or alternatively proof of enrolment in a Thai Soft Power activity.

● 27–28 Aug: I have 6 years of experience as a freelancer and with casual clients, but I didn't have a contract, so as not to make up something false I enrolled in a 9-month Muay Thai program in Phuket (20,000 THB) and uploaded the official enrolment letter plus supporting documents from the gym.

● 31 Aug: My DTV was approved 🎉, on the final day of my Australian visa.

In total, it took around 14 calendar days from application to approval.

My advice: reply quickly to any document requests, be transparent if there is an issue, and upload clear and complete supporting documents.

This is just my personal experience with the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra.

If you travel within Thailand.. and a hotel registers you on the tm30 system.. then it is advisable to file a new tm30 when you return to your home address.. in order to break your association with the hotel accommodation.. you will need to produce your tm30 when filing your tm47 (90-day report) and the address needs to match up.. otherwise they could reject your tm47.. added to this, hotels rarely give you a copy of the tm30 they have filed.. so you don't have your latest tm30 ticket anyway.. it's much easier to just file an online tm30 when you reach home again.. so you can print it out ready for your next filing with immigration.. it only takes a few minutes to do it online so it's not a big deal.. the last thing anyone wants is to find this technicality causes them a major headache later.. eg. after maybe driving hours to immigration to file for an extension say.. the alternative is to always book hotel accommodation in your Thai wife's name and deter them from filing a tm30 on you.. so you don't disrupt your home registration!

It seems that Thailand needs to sort out all the confusion of different offices having different rules to suit themselves depending on what mood they are in, and make the law one rule right across the board .

I constantly got different answers about this, even from the same office on the same day. Very frustrating. I now pay a service to do it for me.

The most important time to do TM30 is each time you return for overseas. One day maybe all the TDAC the TM30 and 90 Reporting will all be interlinked maybe under new TIMS system the meant to go live on 1 Oct I live in

You will then need to upload a copy of your Wife's ID card and the Bluebook for the House (Trabin Barn). Once this is in place your wife with your assistance can do TM30 for you in just a few minutes. Printout the approved TM30 and keep it in your passport. I always you end date like when I am 100 Y.O.

Every time you go and check in a hotel in Thailand, the hotel reports Immigration about your stay, upon your return back to your original place of residence you as a foreigner will have to report back to Immigration via TM30 form irrespective of what your wifes nationality is

TM30. The Landlord has to report to IM within 24 hours of arrival of a foreigner. It needs to be the local provincial IM.

Bangkok don't require this.

my wife immediately does tm30 after i return from abroad. phang nga immigration were very clear , if we go to stay in a hotel within thailand then not necessary, go abroad then necessary
Julian *******

yup. and i have to do it in person. a five hour round trip drive. but that’s ok , it’s a scenic drive for me over two mountains, and the staff at phang nga are always friendly.

Julian Lewis Exactly and your 90 day count starts from the new tm30 date.

Our Thai house in in my wife's name..Nong Bua Lam Pu immigration charged me 1900 baht for failure to notify them of my address.. apparently putting it on your arrival card isn't enough.

Peter Kaye that's correct, the report to immigration confirms you got there, every hotel do it to

Each office in Thailand seems to read the law differently. Easiest way for you to comply is for your wife to get registered on TM30 site and she can do your TM30...no need to go to immigration

It really depends on the particular immigration office. Some dont ask for a new TM30 each time if you were traveling just for a short time within the Kingdom.
Henrik ****
Henrik ****
Hǝınz Mɐzǝnɐnǝɹ, TM30 is not for travel inside Thailand. There is a TM28 for interprovincial travels, but probably no IM is asking for this anylonger.
Hǝınz ***********
Hǝınz ***********
Henrik JN TM30 is for ALL foreigners and must be done by all hotels, hosts etc. automatically. TM28 is not in use anymore tmk.

Depends on your io.

Register your wife for online tm30, can do it yourself then
Steve ********

if you travel around Thailand and return home no need to do new TM30. Leave the country and you start over with TM30. Get home registered for online reporting and do yourself on arrival, no big deal.
Hǝınz ***********
Hǝınz ***********
Steve Carter what, if you got to do the 90-day-reporting and your latest TM30 registration is at some hotel in the country?
Tim *******
Tim *******
Hǝınz Mɐzǝnɐnǝɹ It doesnt matter. Its done all the time as long as your registered to your home in Thailand, you can travel in Thailand, and do your 90 day as required.
Frank *************

It is simply not applicable and nonsense! You reported to immigration at the gate of entrance, airport etc. you filled out the data where you will stay. 90 days later you go there and report it do it online!
Ron ******

Frank Steinstrass He's not asking about 90-day reporting.

Ron Duke you report your place during you enter with the new online form. You pass immigration. After 90 days you need to report again. So what buddy?!

Martin Baker if you went abroad or have stayed in any hotel in thailand, you need to file a TM30

Wife or no wife, everytime you as a foreigner change your residence even for a few days you have to do the TM30 (change of residence) this can be done on line as well
Tim *******

Chun Wu If you went abroad period yes. But not for travel in country.
Martin *******

Chun Wu thats not what Pattaya immigration told me.
Hǝınz ***********
Hǝınz ***********
Martin Baker Problem is, if you're staying at a hotel some time, they will register a TM30 so for the computer, you're not at your wifes house anymore. Now if you got to do the 90-days-notification, it won't match anmyore.

Hǝınz Mɐzǝnɐnǝɹ Even a one night hotel stay is registered by the hotel. It doesnt matter.
