DTV Extension

What’s everybody’s experience with extending the DTV visa in any of the Bangkok immigration offices? I understand the 500k needs to be in a bank account for 30 days +

And your paperwork basically needs updating to the reverent dates?

I know there’s quite a lot of mixed reports on the success of the extensions , wondering what people’s experience are before I make any decisions.

(People doing border runs to reset the 180 days of your DTV entry… are you returning to Thailand the same day or??)

Any genuine experience or information would be appreciated 👍

Many users share their opinions on the complexities and challenges of getting the extension approved, emphasizing that success rates are low and suggesting that border runs are a more reliable alternative. Comments suggest that while some have had hassle-free experiences, many have encountered difficulties, indicating a mix of outcomes. There's also a debate about borders runs, with suggestions on how to conduct them efficiently.

Last month, I extended my DTV (workcation) without any form of hassle.

It's done the same day. Did mine in less than 4 hours (mainly waiting my turn).

Just go with the documents listed on the Bangkok immigration website + 1 4x4 picture + TDAC + lease agreement+ TM30 + previous TM47.

They will give you a number then you wait for your turn.

When you are called, they will ask you to show them:

- the sentence in your contract which clearly states that you are allowed to work online AND outside of your country ;

- a 01-month bank statement with at least 500K baht.

That's it. After that, you pay 1900 bahts, they take your picture and you wait a few minutes, the time for them to stamp your passport.

Easy peasy!

SilverCarrot2981 you didn't mention the most important part, which immigration office. You mentioned Bangkok immigration website requirements, but not if you actually extended in Bangkok.

And was your bank statement foreign or Thai?

For myself, I have a business that requires me to visit the operations site (in China) about once every 4-5 weeks. So I have never done a same-day return; I usually am outside of Thailand for about a week. I've not had any issues at all entering Thailand, with the DTV visa. This may be not helpful, but is another data point on experience with DTV.

DTV needs to be applied for outside Thailand and wherever you apply you need to remain there until it’s been approved

There is various DTV specific groups on FB

DTV also Requires checking in with immigration every 90 days

For your 180 day exiting of Thailand

Depending on where you are in Thailand you can still get a border run done and back in one day .

the visa requires you to leave Thailand, you only need to do a border bounce then back the same day, some one posted only a few hours about that they got refused in Phangan.... and had to goto the border.

the dtv is a easy way to stay long term, why cant people just follow the rules, its once every 6 months.

James Mitchell The rules and law say it can be extended.

Here is an official Thai government employee explaining it, including the extension.

Actually it doesn’t, it clearly states it is possible for 1 extension per year.

I’ve followed every rule in regards to every visa I’ve had whilst living in Thailand. Do you want to come and check my passport and bank account?😭😆

Jord Reep most I know that got the DTV are blagging it, so they should be happy to only have to go to the border once every 6 months, For a 5 year visa

Jord Reep i was making a general comment, not to you personally. There was already a post this morning where a woman was pissed that she got refused at phangan immigration and was told to goto the border.

But you’re just spouting nonsense? I could make a general comment that there’s an abundance of weird expats like yourself who are so desperate to add their 2 pence to every post they come across on Facebook? You didn’t add your experience.. you didn’t add any factual information… 😆

James Mitchell I think that is a salient point. If it was kept for real remote workers, then an extension should be straightforward but as ever, 99% of DTV applicants will be the great unwashed living on rice and water and handouts from mummy and daddy and pretending to to language and Muay Thai classes just the same as they pretended to do under the old visa system.

Yeah the Muay Thai / influencer crap definitely discredits the DTV as a whole. And I think a lot of people probably used faked documents for the 500k also..

It’s a shame to be honest as I feel that’s making the extension much more difficult for genuine remote workers like myself

Jord Reep why do you want to do an extension? You are are not s digital nomad, you try to be a resident. Digital normads moving during a year to different places. And get another job if you can't travel and get short holiday twice or 3 times a year

Very few successfully get an extension of stay for a DTV and it's a fair bit of pain. Basically you apply using all the same documents you supplied previously but updated to the present time. The vast majority just do a border run

And are the majority returning the same day mate? I know with visa exemptions same day returns are now not allowed… if DTV holders are returning the same day and getting the stamp I’m thinking that might the easiest?

I can meet the requirements, just there’s a lot of feedback of people being sent back and forwards with no real clarity to the immigration office.

Plus to pull 11k back out my investments to store in a bank account for a month is a real pain! I’m not prepared to lose the gains id make on that liquidity to jsut be denied an extension without any clear reason why

It’s 99.85% not going to happen in an immigration office

The I/O’s will even say just leave come back so much easier

But hey….you might be the anomaly that gets it through in a seamless process

You can do a same day border bounce..but if your passport needs visa to enter the country you’re doing a border bounce in….only you can justify the price to yourself for a 1-4 hour visit to that country

So go do you

Good luck

Potpong_Life You have no substance to make a claim that 99.85% it cannot be done.

Yes, legally it should be straightforward and yes, there is some evidence that some people have had and issue but 99.85% of "evidence" is just made up shit from people on Facebook with zero real world experience.

Andy Johnston I’ll never say 100% because that would be a crazy number

But yes 99.85% is a great taking piece number
