EDIT : I got in, took less than 1mn. IO didn’t ask one SINGLE question, not even TDAC.

I have a « « « weak » » » passeport.

I was in priority line.

I’m allowed to stay until August 31st.

I received my single entry tourist visa the day before my flight.

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate your advice.

My situation:

* I stayed in Thailand from September 2025 until April 25, 2026.

* During that time, I had two visa extensions (one at the end of 2025 and another in March 2026).

* I made two short border runs to Kuala Lumpur during that period (I now understand that this is no longer recommended and may be viewed negatively by immigration).

* I left Thailand on April 25 and have been outside Thailand ever since.

* I have never overstayed or violated any immigration rules.

I have a flight back to Bangkok on July 2.

I applied for a tourist e-Visa about a month ago, but it is still pending. Since my passport is currently eligible for visa exemption, I’m considering travelling without waiting for the e-Visa.

Based on my travel history, do you think I have a high risk of being refused entry?

Thank you so much for any advice or personal experience!
Answer summary
The poster is concerned about their entry into Thailand after several stays and border runs within a year, particularly given recent stricter immigration policies. They applied for a tourist e-Visa but are considering traveling without it as they are eligible for visa exemption. Responses from the community indicate that while there's a chance of denial due to the frequency of past entries and the nature of their stay, it ultimately depends on the immigration officer's discretion. Successful entry experiences shared by others suggest that luck may also play a role.

Even with tourist visa doesn't guarantee your entry, because let's face it you trying to live her on visa extempt / tourists visa and that's a big nono. Sure you say you want to apply ed visa, why didn't you before? So best route for you now is dtv if you have the funds or buy safe entry

As I live Here I completely understand the desire to come to and stay in Thailand as often and as long as possible. That being said with the recent tightening and scrutiny of entries it is highly possible you would be denied entry based on your recent history. While its commendable you're now applying for a proper visa, again even that may be denied entry or even final approval. The likelihood of that is slim but entirely impossible. You might just have to wait a bit longer and try again. I would urge you to look at all the visas Thailand offers and try to find a proper long stay visa that you qualify for. Hopefully they'll give you final approval and issue you your visa and let you in with it. I would definitely wait for that and not try another visa exempt entry.

Ghita Salah Yes at least getting a visa shows you're making an honest attempt to follow and work within the limits of the system. Go to the Official Thai Government WEB site to see all the different visas and see what you qualify for and what best fits your desires. SETV, METV, Non-O DTV, etc. There are several. The visa exemption program is for an actual tourist coming to Thailand once in a while, not several times in one year.

Moderate risk of refusal. At the end of the process its an immigration officer who will decide, based on your story.

I'm assuming you mean visa exempt stamps due to you mentioning border runs. You only left 2 months ago after spending at least 6 months inside Thailand, maybe more as immigration will look back over at least 12 to 18 months. I'd say there's a very high chance of you being denied entry on a visa exempt stamp. Even with a tourist visa theres a high chance of being denied entry, you need to get a proper visa to live inside Thailand these days.

a tourist visa isn't much different to a visa exempt entry, both are designed for short term tourism. It is better but not by a lot, hence the 2 different risk factors above.

Ghita Salah you should expect being denied entry. Even a tourist visa will not make any difference. If you can get a 90-days Non-Imm-ED visa outside of Thailand, that would more probably enable you to enter

Ghita Salah The Current Enforcement Reality (The "3 Visits" Warning):

This is where the real situation lies. Thai immigration officers have broad discretionary power to deny entry to anyone they believe is abusing tourist entries to live in Thailand long-term without the proper visa.

*** The 180-Day "Rule of Thumb":

While not a law, a common rule of thumb used by immigration is if a person has spent more than 180 days in Thailand within a recent 365-days period on tourist entries (whether visa exemptions or Tourist Visas), they may be flagged as a potential visa abuser.

*** Pattern of Stay:

It's not just the number of entries. Officers look at your pattern. If you do multiple back-to-back trips (e.g., stay for almost 60 days, leave for a week, and come back), it strongly suggests you are not a genuine tourist but are effectively living in Thailand.

*** The "Proper Visa" Warning:

When an officer tells you to "get a proper visa," they are referring to a long-term visa that matches your actual purpose for being in Thailand long-term, such as:

· Non-Immigrant B Visa (for business or work)

· Non-Immigrant O Visa (for retirement, marriage to a Thai national, or other dependant reasons)

· Education Visa (for studying)

· Thai Elite Visa (a long-term visa obtained through a premium membership program)

Why the crackdown?

Thailand is cracking down on people who use tourist visas to:

· Work illegally (digital nomads, freelancers, bar workers).

· Stay indefinitely without contributing to the system (retirees who don't meet the financial requirements for a retirement visa).

· Avoid paying taxes.

Practical Advice to Avoid Being Denied Entry:

1. Keep Your Stay under 180 Days per a 180-days period:

If you want to visit frequently, try to keep your total time in Thailand on tourist entries below 180 days within a 12-months rolling period.

2. Vary Your Entry Points: If you have many recent stamps, avoid using the same land border or airport repeatedly.

3. Carry Proof of Your Intentions: When entering, be prepared to show:

*** a return- or onward-flight ticket out of Thailand within the time you will get stamped in

*** Proof of sufficient funds for your stay (20,000 THB per person is the official requirement, but more is better). I can be equivalent of cash in another major currency. Credit cards are NOT accepted as cash proof!

***Proof of accommodation for a few first nights or an itinerary of your planned trip.

Not asked for but making sense to show:

*** Proof of employment or residency in your home country (e.g., a work contract, property deed, university enrollment). This shows you have reasons to return home.

4. Use a Tourist Visa Instead of Exemption: If you plan to stay for a full 60 days (extendable to 90), applying for a Single-Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) at a Thai embassy or consulate in your home country or a nearby country. It looks better than using a 60-day exemption stamp. It shows you planned your trip in advance.

*** If you plan 6 - 7 months of stay, apply in your home country for the 6-months multi entry tourist visa

5. Consider a Proper Long-Term Visa: If your goal is to spend most of your time in Thailand, you should seriously investigate which long-term visa you qualify for (Retirement, Marriage, Education, Elite, etc.). This is the correct and safe way to stay long-term.

In summary:

Immigration officers are now often stopping people with as few as two or three recent back-to-back entries and advising them to get a proper long-term visa instead of relying on tourist entries.

Thank you for your time, what do you mean by the three famous proofs?
Andreas *********
Andreas *********
Ghita Salah you already spent more than 180 days on visa exemptions and their extensions in Thailand, within the recent 1-year period. I am actually surprised that you got two 30-days extensions issued, one eacch on top of the 60-days visa-exemption, because since November 2025, the new approach of Immigration would mean that within a rolling one-year period, while you can get a 30-days extension on top of visa-exempt 60 days, for a second 60-days visa-exempt they would only hand out a 7-days extension. You were lucky so far, yet. However NOW you are really testing your luck. . . . . . You plan to enter visa-exempt for a third time within a one year period, after you have already maximized two visa-exempt stays. Maybe you will be allowed to enter, however, you should get prepared, you should be able to show the three famous proofs in case you get pulled aside and interogated
