TR Visa turnaround time on [members only]/ Quick note, my last Tourist visa of 60 days only took about 12 hours for them to approve. I applied yesterday afternoon and this morning I received email approval! My last two TRs from earlier this year and late last year took about a week each time.

I am a US resident and citizen living in Texas and I specified the Royal Thai Consulate-General, New York as the office closest to me.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The turnaround time for obtaining a Thai Tourist Visa (TR) varies, with recent applications taking as little as 12 hours for approval when processed through the Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York. Applicants reported longer processing times from other consulates, like Los Angeles, which took about 15 days. US residents inquiring about applying for a visa from within Thailand can only use the e-visa system if they are in specific countries that allow it, and must apply at the appropriate Thai embassy in the country they are residing in.

Thai evisas doesn't change the rules for applying for a visa, it only changed the method. So instead of a paper application you are applying online. You're still required to apply to the consulate of the country you are physically in. You're in Thailand so you don't qualify to use evisa anywhere.

i meant if im a canadian and the country im in is say Romania or hong kong apparently then (as the online tool seems to indicate) i can use it.

But i don’t understand why it wouldn’t work if i was in laos or vietnam … i would need to apply to a thai embassy in laos physically from within laos ?

so none of the countries in SE Asia currently use the evisa system. There are also some other countries around the world that don't use it yet. They say new countries will continue to be added though.

But even then there's the problem that some Thai embassies only accept visa applications from citizens or permanent residents of the country they are in.

@Brandon ***********
is there an example of country in SE asia that does not ? Meaning i could go to say laos and apply ?

in Laos you'd have to go to Vientiane (appointment required) or Savannakhet (accepts walkins) to apply for a visa

LA took about 15 working days back in December. I actually got the e-visa 3 days after arriving in Thailand

New York is always on the ball. I have never waited long. During Covid I received my visa in 72 hours. I also received my last TR visa on a Sunday! Go figure.

Did you show proof of onward travel within 60 days of your arrival ?

I provided my airline itinerary which detailed my arrival/departure dates, booking of hotel in BKK (2 days) and provided the house address of my wife where I will stay for at least a month before heading back south to Koh Lanta.

This thread reminds me of the old joke..

A programmer's wife asks him to buy some groceries. She asks him to

buy a loaf of bread, and if they have eggs, buy a dozen. He comes back with thirteen loaves of bread. But why?, she asks. He responds: They had eggs.

ORIGINAL POSTER
No, that was not specifically asked for however they do ask for your flight itinerary which has my departure date on it. If you want you can see exactly what they ask by going through the visa process on the

and just not actually submit the request.

Thanks but without sounding rude you didn’t answer my question

your question is unclear. My departure date is about 50 days away and I am only traveling from USA/BKK/USA. I only provided the documents as I related. Your question states ..."within 60 days of your arrival?" with the key word being "WITHIN". I can only answer your question correctly in the future once 60 days transpire from my arrival in Bangkok. However, since further documentation will not required I can relate my belief that no, I won't be providing proof on onward travel when I arrive.

When applying online for your 60 day tourist visa did you show/was you asked to show proof of your departure from thailand within 60 days of entering

Which country and/or consulate did you apply through?

Yes I did! They are exacting in their requirements. Once in the past I failed to notice that passport I had for Canada at the time was missing my middle name and failing to notice that I put it on the visa application and they rejected it. That cost me 2 weeks and the 40 dollar fee because I had to re-submit without my middle name in the application.

I updated my original post.. (I live in USA and applied via NY.).

you're lucky they accepted your application. Normally they require you to send proof that you are supposed to use the consulate you applied through, and Texas is supposed to use Washington DC.
