Does anyone have experience applying for the Destination Thailand visa via the Thai Embassy in Washington DC? If you applied as a remote worker, did they actually contact your employer to confirm your remote work status?

I’m having kinda the same issue. I’m worried that they will actually contact my employer

I applied at Chicago and they asked for documentation that my employer accepted me as a remote worker and they wanted my resume. I was approved one day after submitting it.

Resume seems like an interesting ask. Thanks for that. It doesn’t appear that they actually call employers. Do you think that’s correct?

Anonymous participant no I don’t think they will call them. I did see a mysterious one cent deposit in my bank account though. I think they will check to see if your bank account is legit. The deposit only appeared for an hour.

Good to hear. I’m fine on the financial front so that’s no issue. I simply didn’t want my employer to know I’m going to Thailand. Appreciate your feedback.

Anonymous participant but they may want an official signed letter from your employer providing permission for you to work remotely from Thailand

Interesting. Their website says: “Employment contract or employment certificate in their country or professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status.”

I do have it written into my contract I’m teleworking.

They don’t mentioned an official letter of permission from your employer. Is this something you’ve heard about anecdotally?

Anonieme deelnemer In Netherlands they asked me for the extra document, but I guess since it is already mentioned in your contract they might not ask for it.

Anonymous participant I can't actually remember which embassies but seen a few wanting it, even for single person companies owned by the person applying. Does your contract say you can telework from anywhere? I wouldn't get hung up on it until you come up against it, I'd just apply and if they want the letter they'll ask for it

It just specifies me as a remote worker, with no mention of permissible locations. But yeah, I’ll probably just apply and see.

Anonymous participant I showed them my contract where it said I’m a remote worker and that sufficed them.

they don't contact anyone, but they can email you for extra documentation etc.

Just make sure you upload all the requirements when you apply and hopefully it'll go thru.
