Earliest date to get a 30 day extension for a visa exempt? This question came up in another group - US passport holder with visa exempt, due to get an extension on 13.4. When is the earliest date one can get the stamp and still get the 30 days added to the original expiration date? I once did this a few days early and got all my days, somebody else said you can get it max 7 days before expiration. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US passport holder can typically request a 30-day extension for a visa-exempt entry up to 30 days before their current stamp expires without losing any days. However, recent changes may require individuals to request their extensions closer to the expiration date due to increased demand at immigration offices.
BUT now, because of all the people at the offices they are asking people to come get their extensions (even the normal 30 day extension you can get without the embassy letter) when you have a few days left on your current stamp
BEFORE this covid-19 nightmare and the hundreds of people showing up at the immigration office for their emergency extensions you could get an extension at most offices up to 30 days before your current stamp expires and you would lose no days because they add the 30 day extension to your current expiration date.
