TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the current status of the requirement for expats to deposit 800,000 baht in a Thai bank for retirement visas, amid claims of a crackdown on visa regulations. While one comment suggests that the crackdown is primarily targeted at those abusing visa exempts and not retirement visas, others express concerns about the validity and future of using agencies to facilitate these deposits. There is also mention of immigration policies requiring funds to remain in the account for a specific period, and a mix of opinions suggesting that such services may be scrutinized or face changes in the upcoming years.

By all accounts it's still ongoing, but if immigration start to dig into this in 2 yrs time, what will happen to those using the service? Visa canceled i assume.

Visa cancelled, even retroacivelly, from 2015? Users thrown into chains?

Rubbish you talk, nothing will ever happen. If they want to crack down on agencies as they are cracking on sad fucks visa runners, they will just ban them.

Agency prices might have gone up since November 19. 2025.

Before, it was:

54,000 THB on a tourist exemption, 60 days;

34,000 THB if you had Non-O visa already but nothing else;

12,700 THB for 1 year extension if you have your own 800K THB in your Thai account;

As I understand it from comments on here, Immigration require the money to be in the bank for a period before and after the visa application. Not sure but I think 6 months was the after period. Doesn't affect me as I do 65k a month without an agent. I see the guys are still advertising they will take your test and get your driving license - I thought that had been stopped. Just needs test centre to check face against license or passport picture

Correct, they are separating tourists from longterm visitors, you are one or the other, tourists don't need a visa, longtermers do.

What crackdown on existing visa requirements? There isn't one. The only crackdown is on people abusing visa exempt entries. Those people have no visa at all.

It has never been forbidden to come to Thailand without a Visa. From Denmark 2 months upon entry and one more month at immigration. Then a Visa run and the same again, so 6 months in total. The new thing is as I understand it that you can only have 2 arrivals into Thailand without a visa in a calendar year. Which they have done to prevent people from being able to make countless visa runs. Whether that is good or bad, Thailand must decide.

John Nørremark When did I say it was forbidden to come to Thailand without a visa? Nowhere did I say that. I said it was for people abusing visa exempt entries. Visa exempt means you don't have a visa, so there is no crackdown on any visas.

180 days won’t be allowed anymore

150 tops

Now that’s a total, so if you’re doing two weeks at a time you’ll have no issues

Safer to limit it to two entries of 60 days each

There is no rule or law that says this. There is only hearsay and rules of thumb. Nothing has changed officially.

nothing has changed?

Really?

So how is it possible that they’ve changed the second extension to only 7 days if nothing has changed?

Yeah, right

I think we are saying the same thing. 2nd visa exempt 60 day entry extension is only 7 days.

You can enter visa exempt as many times as they let you. If you get an extension, the first one is 30 days. If you try to get another extension in the same year, whether on your 2nd or your 5th visa exempt entry, it will only be 7 days. That's how it's currently working. But as all things, it's up to the discretion of the immigration officer.

you can have more than 2 visa exempt entries per year, just be an actual tourist and not someone trying to live in Thailand on a visa exemptions.
