I’m planning on living in Thailand with my Thai wife next year. I’m going to be employed by a US firm to represent them to purchase drugs from Indian manufacturers. I will be doing work out if my house and computer but will not otherwise work in Thailand what is the appropriate visa to obtain. Eventually I’ll want to convert to a Marriage visa

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to live in Thailand with their Thai wife while working remotely for a US firm, which raises concerns about the legality of remote work without a work permit. The conversation suggests considering various visa options such as the Non-O visa based on marriage, as well as other temporary visa types like METV, SETV, and Elite visa before eventually transitioning to a Marriage visa.

1. Working remotely is illegal (unless you have a work permit). If you go that route, you won't be able to get a long stay visa, and will stay here on SETV and METVs, not good.

2. You should go and get a Non-O visa based on marriage. You can get an multiple entry Non-O at Savannakhet, valid for one year, without showing cash.

It’s not starting for a few months so I’ve got some time to figure out the nuances

The laws are translated and exact meaning is only taken from Thai version. Any effort is work. Definitely unlawful if you get paid by a Thailand business in Thailand. Not disputed, but the rest is not as clear cut.

Until you get married look into the 6 month METV, ed visa, 60 day SETV, or Elite visa....or maybe the 4 year smart visa
