Hopefully a quick one, just to get it right. I never really understood what an extension of stay is. So if I'm getting a single entry ed-visa which allows me to stay for 90 days, i can apply for an extension of stay for a period of time that extends the initial 90 days and therefore wont need to get a new visa from outside the kingdom. Is that correct? TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
An extension of stay allows you to prolong your stay in Thailand beyond the initial 90 days granted by a single entry Non-ED visa. You must apply for this extension at the immigration office with documents from the Ministry of Education and your school.

You will get a single entry Non-ED visa, that will let you enter the country and get stamped in for 90 days. When that 90 days is running out you will get documents from the Ministry of Education and your school and go to the immigration office to apply for an extension. They can be issued for no more than 90 days at a time. When that one runs out you apply for another one. You do that for the course you're enrolled in
