What has happened to whipping cream availability in Chiang Mai, Thailand?

This is for the “everything else” catagory. Does anyone know what has happened to cream in Thailand? At least in the north, Chiang Mai area? I’ve been using whipping cream for my coffee for a long time. It’s been harder and harder to find. Makro was my last holdout. They usually had some brand. But now, nothing.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats in Chiang Mai are reporting difficulties in finding whipping cream and other western food products in local stores. The discussion reflects concerns about the increasing scarcity of imported goods, possibly due to supply chain issues and reduced demand from western visitors. Some shoppers have turned to alternatives like Carnation milk, while others suggest specific shops like YOK and farang markets for finding western ingredients. Overall, the conversation reveals frustration with the changing availability of familiar products in the region.

I know
@Gary *****
. Made it also myself sometimes when I still lived in the Netherlands. For that one time I use it over here, e.g. coffee or apple pie, the can is easy. But
@Terry *******
is right ofcourse. Same with the prefab stuff in the Netherlands. Think maybe use it once a month or so. So hope the body takes care 🤷‍♂️😉

It’s so easy to make with whipping cream. Whipping cream and sugar or monk fruit sugar. Whip it up with an electric mixer

thanks but the cream is for my coffee. I know I could blend in whipped cream, I’ve done it before, but the stuff in the can has a lot of artificial ingredients. I don’t use it for anything.

It's so difficult to even get the plain salted yogurt. With great difficulty I found one in
****
but it was only the smallest size and along with the fruit yogurts. Does anyone know where we can get the large size salted yogurt

Plenty of the real thing down here in Pattaya. Thank god. My morning coffee ritual would be a lost cause without real cream.

Why not just to Thai foods and forget the Farrang foods. It's so much easier.

because most Thais drink heavily sugared drinks loaded with artificial crap. I prefer to consume food and drinks that are natural, when possible.

me too. That's why I buy a good quality coffee, use and use a coffee press and drink it black. I also like to try not to consume too much sugar. Also use low salt fish & oyster sauce in all my meals. Got to try your best.

that’s strange. Maybe it’s just more supply chain issues.

I think the lack of western visitors has caused the lack in sales so no re stocking. I noticed it as well that things are disappearing from the shelves.

I Like cream in my coffee too. And switched to the milky Carnation milk (not the condensed milk one). It seems to be kinda like cream... does the trick.

Ah yes, I know I use cream in my coffee too! I switched to the canned Carnation milk, seams to do the trick. It's quite creamy. It's not the Condensed milk but the Milky Carnation milk.

Probably cant get hold of it or it's too expensive to stock. Bulk cream is up 77% in price compared to Aug21 in the UK.

Seems that most western things are disappearing from every store here of late. I’m thinking the government is pushing everything Thai and Chinese.
