If I was to order something off say Amazon in the Uk for the Uk market and delivered to the Uk, the items I order have to be of a certain quality/ tested to certain standards etc all protected in law with heavy penalties for breaches of say the Sale Of Goods Act etc
Does the same apply under a Thai law when/ if living in Thailand, if you order goods online from say Lazada for example, does the law offer any protection to the purchaser (especially if said purchaser is an Expat)
Thanks in advance
โExample being, a while back, I ordered some LED light bulbs from AliExpress, something Iโve been doing for 15+ years, the arrived to the UK, live wires at mains voltage easily touchable when handelling the bulbs, a death trap for anyone silly enough (or naive enough) to use them and looking at the reviews, thousands had. My due diligence tests immediately highlighted the dangers, messaged the supplier with said dangers ๏ฟผand a full refund was immediately given with no expectations for me to return the items, sadly the items are still on saleโ
TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, consumer protection laws are relatively weak compared to the UK. There is little formal legal recourse for expats when ordering online from platforms like Lazada. While the site does have refund policies that work for some users, caution is advised as product quality may be inconsistent. Buyers are encouraged to check product reviews and prefer brands they trust. Overall, the prevailing sentiment suggests a 'buyer beware' mentality in the Thai market.
