Sorry not a visa question. But has anyone, who lives here been to lop buri lately. Been to day all the monkeys have gone ,a lady in 7 said they have all been relocated to the mountains, I know they were a pain in the arse but they were what people went to see, only asking. Thanks
Answer summary
Recent changes in Lopburi, Thailand, have led to the relocation of the famous long-tailed macaques that were a significant tourist attraction. Due to a massive government crackdown aimed at resolving human-wildlife conflicts, thousands of these monkeys have been sterilized and moved to controlled enclosures. This shift has raised concerns among locals and tourists about the loss of a unique attraction, as many remember the monkeys as part of the city's charm, even though they were often a nuisance.

The problem is that when tourists feed them they become habituated and then dangerous. They are perfectly capable of killing a child so relocating them in the mountains is best for everyone. If you want to see them then go on a wildlife walk but DO NOT FEED THEM.

Many of the monkeys have been relocated to the Huai Sai Wildlife Breeding Center near Cha-am. They have built a very large enclosure for them there.

I read a few years ago that the monkeys ๐Ÿ’ used to be ok, many locals and tourists fed them so they were quite chilled (for wild monkeys) as they never had to fight for food. However when covid hit and lock down happened locals didn't have funds to give food and there were no tourists to feed them and a wild side woke up where they needed to hunt and fight for food turning them aggressive. This in turn has taught the younger generation to be aggressive. They have had to remove them for safety. Not sure if the article I read was true but it makes sense.

They can be a menace to the people there. Many shops have spray bottles that the staff use to chase away the monkeys from entering their shops. And locals have had their hair pulled, and their belongings snatched. I doubt keeping the monkeys is what the locals want.

The famous long-tailed macaques of Lopburi, Thailand, have been subjected to a massive government crackdown, resulting in thousands of them being rounded up, sterilized, and relocated into large municipal enclosures to resolve severe human-wildlife conflict. The city has recently shifted from an open, free-roaming primate haven into a highly regulated management zone.

I doubt that Buddhists would kill the monkeys - that's why there were so many of them!

Chris Topher Ian Fowler A euphemism is a mild, indirect, or polite word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh, blunt, or offensive. They are frequently used to soften the blow of sensitive topics. So taken to the mountains may mean something else.
