Just received a stamp when applying for a Non-O Volunteer visa, was mentioned a couple months ago that says “Remark: The applicant is advised to apply for work permit, should be presented to the authorities next time”

Any new thoughts?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The stamp on the Non-O Volunteer visa advises the applicant to obtain a work permit for volunteering in Thailand. This reminder is routine for such visas issued from Vientiane, indicating a clear requirement for a work permit to engage in volunteer work legally. Many users in the thread express confusion about the application process for work permits, noting that they often have to apply every three months and undergo medical testing. The conversation highlights the complexities and challenges faced by expats in Thailand regarding visa and work permit regulations.

It's just to remind you that you need a work permit to do voluntary work in Thailand

It is routinely put on Non-O visas issued in Vientiane based on volunteering because they know you NEED a work permit to volunteer. It has nothing to do with you getting an extension inside the country or getting a new visa (if you needed to do so).

, so this means every 3 months visit a Thai Consulate/Embassy for new visa, come back apply for a new WP or they Extend the existing WP for 3 months? And how long does it take if you need a new WP?

They're asking for a bunch of new documents as well, so I was being generous with quadrupled.

About a week is what I've seen so far to renew. Could be longer now that they just quadrupled their work load.

The CM work permit department doesn't want to give work permits to volunteers. Now they are saying that they will give every 3 months.

No work permit, no visa extension at immigration - just power plays all over and the 80-90% real volunteers are stuck in the middle. Rules, what rules!

They are issuing them again, just not for a year. Only three months at a time like
@Sha***
said. I understand it also means medical test every three months too.

Perhaps it’s possible to apply in a different province for a work permit, but I doubt it

Strange they continue to issue visas. That's down too being 2 totally seperate depts.

One would assume at some stage, they will simply stop issuing visas to organisations sending people from Chiang Mai.

Who knows.
