TLDR : Answer Summary
To open a bank account in Udon Thani while on your wife's blue book TR14, you'll generally need your passport and the blue book. The exact requirements can vary by bank and branch; some might ask for additional documents like a residency certificate or a lease agreement. It's suggested to approach your wife's bank first and be prepared with the necessary documents, including possibly getting your UK marriage certificate translated. Experiences shared in the comments indicate that the process can be somewhat inconsistent, so trying different banks may yield different results.

Go to your wife's bank in Udon with her and you should be ok just take your passport and blue book

If they say "No" (mai-die) just go on over to the next bank. Repeat if necessary until you get what you want. The bank branches here interpret the rules as they understand them, though understandings differ.

yes also explain that you live here and you need the account to transfer money from your country. Also add that you want the app to pay bills here.bank will set up the app for you. It's amazing if you are nice to Thais how much they will help you. But if you are gruff and look down on them they close up

sure like any bank in any country l think it's 500 bht initial deposit to open an account but it is debited to your account it is not a charge. You also will pay 400 bht annually if you want a card. But if you get the bank to set up the banking app you don't need the card. Withdrawals can be made at an ATM using your phone

If you have a residency certificate it could help.. a local Kasikorn Bank told me I needed a letter from the British Embassy which I know would never happen... local Bangkok Bank were more obliging.

Are you really in your wife's blue book? Or do you have a yellow book?

Just go and try different branches. It may be easier being away from tourist areas. The main stumbling block is proving where you live. Some banks will accept a sponsor so try your wife's bank first plus other banks will open an account if you buy their expensive insurance. Current money laundering laws have made it much harder to open a bank account. Good luck

I opened an account with SCB recently, I had no problems with just my badly damaged passport that had just been through a standard cycle in a washing machine. It is extremely hit and miss which bank and if they feel like it. Just try one at a time be polite and smile a lot.

Just wing it with your passport and visa and see how it goes. They will tell you what they need. Generally it's the luck of the draw with banks.

Bangkok Bank Jomtien requirements: Long term visa, passport, 2nd government issued photo ID, residency certificate, 1 year lease agreement or blue book. Every bank and every branch will have a list of their own. Just give you an idea.
