TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a NON-O Visa from the UK and later convert it into a retirement visa while in Thailand, the main document required is proof of funds. Unlike the NON-OA Visa, the NON-O Visa does not require a criminal background check or health insurance. While some advice suggests needing three months of bank statements, this is dependent on the specific embassy's requirements. Typically, a closing balance of £18,000 is necessary, and applicants should submit a full PDF of their bank statements rather than screenshots. After arriving in Thailand, individuals must then deposit 800,000 THB in a local bank and hold it for two months for the subsequent extension application.

You get your retirement visa (over 50) before entering Thailan in the UK, open a bank account soon after arrival then deposit 800k to season for 2 months to apply for your 12 month extension (not a visa)

That was a question I was also going to ask. I’ve already got a Kasikorn account for many years and have 800k in it so basically I can arrive in a tourist visa and convert to 1 year then ?

@Martin *******
Some Immigration Offices do not allow this conversion but all of the ones in the tourist type areas do

Do you need to prove the 800k in a uk bank whilst applying for the Non O?
Graham ******
@Martin *******
Yes you need 800k and where you are applying for the Non-O determines where that money should be or if you can use 65k income or Embassy affidavit if available. Applying in the UK the 800k can be anywhere in your name.

Just look on embassies website the 3 months is only if showing a monthly balance.

How long you must have seasoned the funds for depends of the embassy you are applying through. Best bet is the check the specific embassies requirements and go from there.

A criminal records check is only require for the non-OA visa. A 90-day non-O visa does not require any background check, health check, insurance, or any number of requirements that the non-OA visa requires. It's mostly just providing proof of funds.
