TLDR : Answer Summary
The tax charged on imported goods into Thailand varies based on the category of the item. In this case, the import tax of 1,327.30 THB on a 249 USD item seems correct, as it aligns with the typical taxation structure, which includes a 7% VAT and additional customs fees. Many expats have noted that anything valued over 1,700 THB is subject to these taxes, and the overall duty percentage typically hovers around 14-15%. Despite the tax, several community members imply the costs are reasonable considering international shipping and customs processes.

Most likely correct.. the tax is on the total value inclusive of the shipping fees…

I have learnt that it’s never wise importing from overseas into Thailand.

For a start there is VAT. That’s 7%. That’s 627b. The rest is probably customs charges and or fees. Try that into the UK and it’ll be 20% VAT. And into Texas it’ll be 8.25% sales tax plus Federal customs and fees. Maybe these days a small flat fee of $100. Who knows. Who cares. My point is of course clear I hope. This has cost you next to nothing to clear customs and more to the point it arrived safely. Of course you could hire a good attorney in Bangkok to negotiate this charge down. I can recommend an excellent one. They will probably charge you 10,000b for the first initial consultation...... pay it. ... Next question

Doesn't realy matter. That's what you will have to pay if you want your item.

If you don't like it then you can appeal the decision you can find the details on the website for customs, unfortunately you will find that anything you buy outside of Thailand is likely very heavily taxes

That’s about right. I had a similar value in records sent here and paid about the same as you are being charged. There is a notice at my local post office, anything received over 1700 Thb is subject to import tax / duty.

It is only around 15%

Different categories of goods have different tax levels.

The amount you paid for the item is irrelevant. Customs tells what your item is worth and you pay what they say or you don't get your item.
