I am on a TR-visa in Thailand (since 6/12/2020), staying in Chiang Mai.

I would like to try to get a NON O retirement-visa. I requested a so-called 'visumondersteuningsbrief' (visa support letter) from the Dutch Embassy to state my yearly income, which should be sufficient (> 65.000 THB per month).

Anybody experience in this process?

Thanks for any advice

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on converting their TR-visa to a NON O retirement visa in Thailand, having requested a visa support letter from the Dutch Embassy to confirm their adequate income. A commenter suggests visiting the local immigration office to obtain the requirements and highlights the need for at least 15 days left on the current visa. They also mention the fees and process for obtaining the NON O visa.

GO to your local immigration office, get the hand out listing the requirements to apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement).

If your embassy issues the letter of income from abroad you can use it to show proof of funds.

Remember at most offices you need at least 15 days left on your current stamp to apply for the in country conversion to a 90 day Non-O visa.

You apply, you pay the 2000baht, you get a stamp on the receipt that says come back in 14 days, and when you go back you get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamped inked in

. Think the 15 days left is a bit critical for him. Think to leave stamp is about 4 february ? Can/must

not ask for a regular extension of 30 days first to have more time ? Also this visumondersteuningsbrief can sometimes take a week to arrive.

Well spotted

In Chiang Mai you need 21 days or more left on your current stamp to get an in country Non-O visa

He'd definitely need to apply for the 30 day regular extension before he tries for the in country 90 day Non-O

Update: i have been to Chiang Mai Immigration just now today:

- indeed i first have to apply for a regular 30-day extension before being able to apply for a Non-O retirement

- the first officer i met at the counter said he couldn't accept my application for retirement-visa because a '3 month rental agreement; complete with cityplan and proof of rentalpayment' was missing; he couldn't answer my question how to be here already 3 months on a tourist-visa. just 'no, and please come back when you have these papers'

- so i decided to apply for a regular extension of 30 days, which i got in less then half an hour; the girl at the counter informed me that applying for non o retirement is only possible after a regular 30-day extension. she gave me already the forms for drawing the cityplan with the location of the building i am staying.

- By the way: for the regular extension i needed a 'receipt' of the TM30-form that my landlord earlier filed at immigration

... another day in paradise.... :)

, she meant you didn't have enough TIME on your current stamp to apply for the in country Non-O visa at the CHiang Mai immigration office because they require 21 days minimum left on your stamp and you only had a stamp good until probably Feb 3 (if you stamped in on Dec 6th).

Had you shown up at the office to apply when you DID have 21 days left on your entry stamp you could have done it without the 30 day extension :)

You should have an extension good until about March 5, so that means you have to apply for this in country NOn-O visa by no later than the 12 of Feb to have the 21 days you need

Good luck, you're on the way to getting it (y)
