TLDR : Answer Summary
To switch from using an embassy letter as proof of income to bank deposits when renewing your retirement visa in June, you need to maintain either 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name for at least 2 months prior to your application, or receive a minimum of 65,000 baht monthly transferred from abroad into your Thai bank account for the past 12 months.

You can get an embassy letter before April 1st if you're Canadian and it will still be valid for your extension this June. You could use the monthly income method in the meantime for the next 12-15 months to qualify for the following extension next year

I advise you to check this up with your immigration first, as some immigrations only accept a affidavit within the last 30 days. Just so you don’t risk to get short in time.

there was a police order put out in 2013 that says embassy letters have a validity of 6 months from the date of issue

this is an image grab of it

I Know this is this the only official regarding thing. But I also know several Norwegians around have had problems regarding this and have to get new updated affidavits.

you bank 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for your extension

OR

If you were going to use monthly income, you transfer in from abroad a minimum of 65k baht a month each month, every month for the previous 12 months to a thai bank account in your name only.

it seems like you're from Canada..

Keep in mind that even though they will discontinue the income affidavit notary letter on April 1st that letter is valid for 6 months

So if your extension is in the next 6 months get the letter one last time and then go for another method to meet the proof of funds next year

contact the embassy because I thought you could get it online where you fill out the required information, pay and they send the letter to you by email
