I have a lady friend from the Philippines who wants to come with me. A friend said I have to have been with her for one year if I am using my source of funds. Is this true? If so, can I just give her enough pesos to show she has her own money for her trip? What is the best way for us to go together? Thanks!
Answer summary
A Filipino citizen can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days, though proof of funds (20,000 THB or equivalent) is recommended and may be asked for by Philippine immigration before departure. It's preferred that she presents her own financial means rather than relying solely on the expat's funds, especially if it's her first trip. Detailed travel documentation, including return tickets, hotel bookings, and evidence of ties to the Philippines (like job or school enrollment), can help to avoid offloading. Travelling together may help provide context but care should be taken in how to present their relationship.

She will have no problem at Thai airport because she get visa exemption. She will have more problems at Philippines airport to leave country if she can't evidence enough money or job. Specially if it's her first time. They are very restrictive to their own people there. She needs special allowance to leave

sadness comes from with in. We are ok if it’s an offload issue. We are just trying to prevent that.

I'm a Filipino and my husband before my bf takes me there in Thailand however when I travel with my own the ho offloaded me the reason is human tracking as I mention I am going to meet my bf there in Thailand also asking for proof of pictures etc. I learned that if a Filipino wanted to go on holiday do not mention meeting someone in Thailand the purpose of travel is for holiday and make sure there is a return ticket and itinerary also smart dress upon ho question it must be a short answer and you have to prove that you are going to return the country that's all . In my case my bf now my husband went to the Philippines and got me we both travel together and he just signed a declaration that I am going back before 30days end

we are flying together from the Philippines. Would it be better if we say we are together? We don’t have many pics at all. I do have a lease, we both have return tickets, and accommodation. She’s just a friend. Or would it be better it looks like she is traveling alone for holidays? She also has proof that she’s been going to school an that she is signed up for school now if that helps. Also I am 45 and she is 22 if that matters

If they ask for proof of funds when you arrive visa exempt it would probably mean that the immigration officer had some other reason to want to deny you entry. Dress conservatively and be well behaved and you'll sail though without any of that happening.

NEVER take a woman with you to Thailand. You'll regret it after you get there.

Your biggest problem will be offloading in the Philippines and not getting on the flight..

She will be allowed 60 days visa exemption entry to Thailand..

Just make sure she has 20k Thai Baht or foreign currency equivalent on her but its unlikely to be asked if its her first time to Thailand but just in case..

And evidence of a hotel booking also a good idea...

BUT .. first she has to be allowed out of the Philippines so that's the likely to be the biggest problem...

Once on the flight she will be ok..

The issue will be offloading in PH. She should be fine getting into Thailand. Unless she has a history of staying in Thailand or your history of doing so gets you flagged and they flag her too.

And offloading is a whole thing that most in here are not going to have a clue about since this is a Thailand group.

So many factors go into offload risk. Especially when we are talking about non-married couples.

If she is rich and has a nice job there will be little issues. Especially if she is close in age to you.

If she has no job, is poor, and you are sponsoring the trip there will be more issues.

There are all sorts of things Filipinos will tell other Filipinos to have.

But honestly paying for themselves and traveling with friends and family is the best way.

If that isn’t an option you need to have affidavits of support. Maybe even permission from her parents (notarized). Plus proof of relationship and clear proof she is returning.

If they have any reason to think she is in danger of being trafficking or she is trying to get a job in Thailand while bypassing the normal OFW system she is likely to be offloaded.

It just is what it is.

Go thru immigration together and have all the stuff they might ask for. Including a yearbook. (A joke that if you understand you should understand all of this. But yes that really happened.)

Have her join Filipino travel groups and get opinions of those Filipinos who have traveled for what she should have.

it is all good I think FB does that by mistake. But figured I would tell you that you did so you can properly talk to the other dude.

As for basic trips shouldn’t be an issue beyond offloading.

I just wanted to point out that dude while being extreme is kind of correct.

Offloading is about preventing trafficking and people bypassing OFW rules. But BI at times abuses it. But after the yearbook it seems to be better and less BI officers just waiting for you to bribe them.

Which is such a hard thing to know. Like if you try to bribe the wrong person you make it worse. Don’t bribe the dude asking for it and you may not get offloaded but you will miss the flight like what happened with the yearbook woman.

Just a bad system with no cut and dry rules.

In some ways it would almost be better if they made filpinos apply in advance for an exit clearance. That way people would no if they could travel or not before getting to the airport.

what’s that even mean? There is no human trafficking going on. Just a friend who wants to come to Thailand with me. She has to return to go back to school and I still have a lease at my condo.

tagged the wrong person.

But PH BI does actually frame this as a trafficking thing. And honestly a lot of it happens.

Just make sure they only offload.

An idiot a few years back tried to help a bunch of Filipina “friends” get out of Ph to find jobs in another country. They put him in jail for trafficking since technically he was. Not sure what ever became worn the case but jail awaiting trial alone is years and that was what he was doing the last update I personally heard but that was a year or two ago.

This offloading stuff is way more serious behind the scenes then we make it seems.

that’s what she’s worried about. We do have an age gap but she’s 22 years old. Goes to school, doesn’t have a job. Maybe she should just go like she is alone to travel by herself?

22 I believe they are still likely to ask to see parental permission. If I remember right she would need it to get married at that age.

Traveling alone won’t help since Filipinos seldom travel alone. It will raise more red flags.

If friends and family are not an option traveling with you is better than alone from everything I’ve seen.

Stuff like a letter form the school showing they allowed it and when they expect her back likely will help too.

Basically she likely should have been in Filipino getups for months learning all the advice.

How long have you been dating? Hopefully you have a lot of pics together and may want to print out some text chain from messenger or what ever you use.

Basically the more overly prepared she is the better it will be.

Also she needs to be confident and honest in her answers.

And from everything I have seen go thru immigration together aka have her come with you in the foreigner lane.

The Thai immigration seldom asked for 20,000 THB show money. She will have 60 days visa exempt to stay here in Thailand. More often than not it is the Philippine immigration who might ask her a lot of questions.

David Gonzalez . .you are being told complete and utter nonsense. . . IGNORE the replies from these stupid people. . . . . Your girlfriend has a Philippine Passport she can enter Thailand on a "visa-exemption" and will get stamped in for 60 days, and she can extend on Immigration for 1900 Baht for 30 more days . .

Book a RT ticket in her name, book hotel in her name, make sure she has 20,000 baht or equivalent, and prep her to say, she is going on "holiday." Should help if questioned by Philippines authorities, and needed if questioned by Thai authorities.

nevertheless, she should carry cash on her equivalent of 20,000 THB, and a proof of a few booked nights of accomodation. This could be shown together with you if asked

she does not have to show income proof, but maybe she can be asked for cash 20,000 THB. You just make sure she is carrying the much in cash, just in case she gets asked

No, Philippine citizens do not need a visa for tourism in Thailand for stays up to 60 days, thanks to Thailand's visa exemption policy for Filipinos, which allows entry for tourism, business, or transit and can be extended, but you must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival and have a passport valid for at least 6 months. Longer stays or different purposes (like work/study) require a specific visa obtained in advance. Per google search!

As a tourist

One needs to show the

Equivalent of 20,000 baht = 38,000 Philippines $ in a bank in their name or cash
