James Miller, just to report. My friend went with all the paperwork and his girlfriend to the Immigration Office Sisaket again today.

All IO including the boss insist that you have to have a Thai Bank account for 12 month and the 800000 for 3 month before you can apply for extension of the OA visa he got in UK. It's on the end the second year. The money is there over 3 month.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reports that their friend faced difficulties at the Sisaket Immigration Office while trying to extend his OA visa. The officials insist that he must have a Thai bank account for 12 months and maintain a balance of 800,000 THB for 3 months prior to applying for the extension. There are comments suggesting a need for an appeal or questioning the office's understanding of the rules.

i can't see any benefit of keeping this open, it is clearly between the person who can't get the extension and the immigration office they're dealing with.

If they won't stand up for themselves there is nothing we can give other than sympathy..

I told you that already.

If it were me, I would just forget the hassle - go back home - Do what he did to get his first O-A Visa.

He needs to file an appeal because that is not how the rule is written

You mentioned this person before and there is something wrong about what he's being told.

I totally agree with that. He might have success with an appeal. But who is to say if he has to deal with that particular officer again in the future, and maybe get greaf about it making it harder to stay here.

I know it might not be the most popular opinion. And surely it's not fair.

But in smaller areas where they are more likely to remember you. I would not risk filing an appeal unless it was for something outrageous or impossible to overcome. Better to find a way around it. Do what they ask with a smile, and be done with it.

I know and I told him about the appeal. He is abit afraid that he can have problems later. I just told him now that he is maybe better of to get it done against in UK.

Amazing how they don't know their own rules.

, I have spoken with the Malaysian immigration on a few occasions in this past week, their feeling is the same as most foreigners entering/trying to enter Thailand.

no it's not. They make em up day by day. Seriously though, Thai immigration is so inconsistent. Needs addressing but not gonna happen. And some posters knock others who criticize the Thailand.

Sent back 5 times from the Pedang Besur main crossing. 1st one my fault really for not having the required cash on me. The rest just IO's being little hitlers. The last one at the train station and a total IO's incompitence.
