Hi, I have a Multi Entry Non Immigrant O/A Visa, based on retirement purposes.

I went to my local immigration office today to find out what are the requirements to extend my visa for 1 more year prior to lodging my visa extension.

I was told that, "because I have a Multi Entry visa" If I left the country and returned again before my visa expires that I would be stamped in for 1 more year. (I also showed them my health insurance is paid for another year)Then I was told to return to them to let them know my current address, and then I would have to visit then in November next year for another 1 year extension.

Can anyone confirm that is true and correct?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a Multi Entry Non Immigrant O/A Visa for retirement and inquired about extending their visa by leaving and re-entering Thailand before expiration. They were informed by local immigration that this would grant them an additional year. Comments confirm this information, stating that a new 365-day stamp is issued with each entry before the visa's expiration date, provided health insurance is also valid. Additionally, a re-entry permit is needed for travel outside Thailand after the original visa expires.

Do any other visas do the same ?

@Andrew ********
, if multiple entry visa, the concept is the same. But visa validity, length of entry stamp, and some other conditions are different depending on the type of visa.

Would it work on a Thai child guardian visa / extension?
Ellie *******
@Andrew ********
, No, Non-O visa based on raising a Thai child is issued as only single entry visa. And extensions have no entries built in. When you are on an extension, you need a re-entry permit to travel out of Thailand to keep the current stamp valid. Entry stamp from re-entry permit is the same as the current extension. Re-entry permit wouldn't add any day after expiry of the current stamp.

Would ot have worked on a ME.Non B. Just wondering if I missed out all those years.

, as I wrote, IF the visa ITSELF is multiple entry, it would work in that way.

With my LTR visa I get stamped in until 5 years after issuance of the LTR.

True, that’s how Non O-A visa gives up to two years in Thailand.

Yes, that's correct. You are stamped in for a new 365 days (or until insurance validity) every time you enter on or before "valid until" / "must be used by" date of your visa itself (eVisa PDF or visa sticker on your passport).

Many people get so-called "second year" entry stamp from Non-OA visa.

Just remember, you need re-entry permit when you want to travel out of Thailand after your original Non-OA visa expires as no longer multiple entry.

, Thanks very much for your help,

Can I depart and arrive in Thailand from a land border, or do I have to depart and arrive by air?
Ellie *******
@Col *******
, you can bounce at a land border, by air, or so-called sea border.

Bring printed Non-OA (if eVisa) and a new insurance policy in hand to enter Thailand for another year. Make sure to check the entry stamp before you leave passport control that you are stamped in for 365 days (or insurance validity) with "Non-OA" in the "visa class" field on the entry stamp.

Thanks very much, I recently renewed my health insurance, I don't have an E- visa, I have the Visa sticker in my passport.
Ellie *******
@Col *******
, then you want to bring your passport and policy. Show the visa sticker page to the officer at passport control upon entering Thailand.
