TLDR : Answer Summary
For a retirement visa in Thailand, a couple from South Africa needs to meet the financial threshold of just under 1 million Rand (approximately 453,000 Rand each), provided both applicants are over 50 years old. If applying in South Africa, a medical exam and medical insurance are also required. Regarding the parrot, it can only be brought into Thailand once the visa is obtained, as tourists cannot enter the country with a pet. Additionally, all necessary vaccinations and registrations with the veterinary authorities in South Africa must be completed for pet importation.

You will need just under 1 million Rand ( 453 000 each) if both over 50 years, if you are going to apply for the visa in SA you will need to have a medical and insurance. If you are going to apply in Thailand then you can only take the parrot once you have the visa because you can not enter as a tourist with the parrot.

no Rands, you need 800 000 Baht each if your wife is under 50 you can just get one visa and she will be able to come in on that visa ( unless that has changed)

Makes no difference unless you’re married to a Thai national. Ore else both need to qualify individually for a Non O based on retirement. You can find more information here. You probably can bring a parrot as long as all vaccines and registration with official vet authorities for pets in general is completed.

If married to the parrot it can attach as a dependent to your visa so it doesn't need a separate visa. BTW, is this a normal S. African marriage?
