Hi everyone,

I’m applying for a Thai Non-Immigrant O (Spouse) Visa for the first time through the Embassy in Canberra, and I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone who has gone through it recently.

From what I’ve read, the main requirements are:

• Marriage certificate + spouse’s Thai ID & house registration

• Invitation letter from spouse

• Bank statement showing at least 20,000 THB (individual) or 40,000 THB (family)

• Proof of residence in Australia

• Proof of accommodation in Thailand

• Flight itinerary

My question is: did the Embassy ask you for anything extra beyond this list (like proof of income, wedding photos, extra financials, etc.)? And was an invitation letter in English enough, or did you also provide one in Thai?

Any tips or clarifications would be a huge help since this is my first time applying 🙏

Thanks in advance!

while this is the posted proof of funds on the canberra website I don't think that's what it is any more because that website page is from 2023 which was before they went online to the eVisa system.

I think they adjusted the proof of funds (just like all the consulates did, to what is shown on the eVisa website now

Also just so you know NO consulate issues the year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa anymore. That is not a choice when you apply for the visa

You get a 90 day single entry Non-O, you come here, get stamped in for 90 days, get a thai bank account open get 400K baht banked and when you have 30 days or less left on your 90 day stamp you can apply for a year extension at the immigration office where you stay based on marriage to a thai.

That's the only way to get a "year" anymore

this is clearly posted on the eVisa online website under "family visa" and it shows 40K baht a month in income or 400k baht banked

I dealt with Sydney consulate for this application, but before they moved to the new online system.

My experience was they accepted English language documents without needing to be translated to Thai. They never asked me for further documents beyond their original checklist.

Feedback I've read in Facebook groups is that Canberra and Sydney are some of the easiest Thai embassies to deal with in the world.

The whole process is online now, go to the e Visa website, login, start uploading the documents and entering the data as the program requests it.

Check that you got the data entry correct before you submit the application, because data entry error results in an automatic denial.

It's a straightforward process, no need to be worried about it, it's not a bad consulate to deal with.

If they need more documentation they will email you.

If you have other questions you could always post on the Aussies in Thailand FB group and ask as you'll get better answers there seeing as those people only use Sydney or Canberra for visas.

This is the website

baht financial (quoted by OP) requirement when applying for the non o based on marriage in your home country? Is this correct?

I think that is a mistake and that ALL thai consulates are now 40k/400k

I went to the canberra website and it showed from 2023 info that I think is now not current
