Does anyone know how difficult it is or what the requirements are to get a CDC dog import permit if traveling from Thailand? I want to travel to the US with my dog in September and was informed about this new rule by the airline. It says I need to apply for it 2 months in advance. I'm wondering if it's even worth applying for. Thailand is considered a high risk country for rabies. My dog was vaccinated against rabies in Thailand, but it says the CDC will only allow a vaccination certificate from the CDC... I'm assuming my dog's vaccination certificate will not be accepted. Is that right?
TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling to the US with a dog from Thailand involves obtaining a CDC import permit, which is necessary due to Thailand's high rabies risk status. This process requires applying for the permit at least two months in advance. The CDC only accepts rabies vaccination certificates from approved locations, meaning your dog's vaccination in Thailand may not be accepted unless it's from a CDC approved lab. Resources such as the Relo4Paws page provide assistance for this process.
