Hello, we are here on a visa exempt entry and now in our 30 day extension. We want to get non-o visas for retirement purposes. We are USA citizens in Bangkok now. We have just recently obtained non resident bank accounts. Please advise what office we will need to go to, mtt or cw. What time frame must we follow? What documents do we need to take with us? Is it enough to have the bank accounts with virtually no balance to get the visa, knowing we must have the 800k baht seasoned for two months before we can get the retirement extension? It's likely all this has been gone over many times, but things change out here. Thanks for your help, we will likely have followup questions.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand on a visa exempt entry with a 30-day extension, seeking to obtain a Non-O visa for retirement. They have questions regarding which immigration office to visit (MTT or CW), the time frames involved, necessary documents, and whether having bank accounts with minimal balance meets the requirements for the visa application. Recommendations include showing proof of 800,000 THB, obtaining a letter from the bank, and reviewing specific document requirements at the chosen immigration office.

Go to CW Office to apply for your 90 Day Non-O (Age 50+). You have to show proof of 800K THB (No seasoning required when applying for the 90 Day). Go to your Local Bank and obtain a letter to prove the 800K THB came from abroad. A copy of Bank Book (updated on the day of application). *Passport (copies of Data Page and last entry stamp). *TM-6 (Departure Card) * Pass Port Photo size 1X * TM-87 Form filled out. *2,000 THB fee. They have some Banks ( I don't remember all but I know Krungsri for sure) and a copy center located on the Basement Floor at CW Office.

- thanks for your input. Seems about the same as the extension, just a bit more.

Here’s a list of what Phuket requires in documents. Each office may have slightly different requirements but it’ll give you a general idea.

Check with immigration at CW if you want to get their specific requirements.

have you googled "documents needed to obtain a retirement Visa in Thailand", or seeched this page or Thai Immigration website, etc, there to get most, if not all, necessary information, and ur questions answered. Then return here with a narrowed, specific question or two if you find any requirement confusing.

Eric Pasco "snippy", or perhaps a lesson learned. it's one thing to try to help clarify confusing aspects of visa situations, but to be asked to do someone's most basic research is foolish. but, as i said, there are those who have nothing else to do and love to answer the most basic information that's already been shared countless times here and is readily available via the most basic google search, but, hey, don't let me take u away from your fun. knock yourself out.

- that's one way of doing it, or we can use Thailand visa advise and everything else. Thanks for your input. 😉

yes, this way, you can get everyone to do your homework for you, oh, and make no mistake, there are plenty who live just to do it.

but, I believed in the "teaching one to fish" rather than just "giving the fish". but, when not getting ur info from official sources, don't let that doubt creep in that maybe, just maybe, the information you've been given on a FB page, might not be 100% correct.

good luck

and you expect Google to be as informed as members of this group? Good luck in that. Why be a member if you think the advise we give is not accurate, up to date and specific to the questions asked.

u miss the point. google will provide acess to official answers or ph numbers to call-- yes, thai visa information can be confusing, but u must not have read many FB posts and the multiple, sometimes 40, 50, to 100's of replies--with many contradicting each other, often fighting and arguing with each other over who is correct. how is that helpful? how is the original questioner supposed to know what or whom to believe? If one has done their own basic research, they at least have some idea of the accuracy of things. Again, u really did not read my comments before criticizeing fhem. , which happens often in these discussions. i suggested one do their own basic research first, and return to the group for advice (not advise), on a more narrowed basis related to some fewer specific areas that still proved confusing. But to just throw out out broad, general questions thst could easily be answered by googling, seems lazy. However, i'm sure you have all the answers and are welcome to believe that FB groups are the fountain of accuracy.

people get things wrong. I get things wrong. However the majority of people on this site who answer questions have the best intentions. If they’re wildly wrong then others will show them the way. It’s a site for advice. No one is forcing you to take the opinions here as fact. Man up and decide for yourself who is correct.

as the saying goes, " the road to hell is paved with good intentions." "man up"???? when did it appear I was "afraid", more just disdainful. Again, you really keep missing the points. I never said anything close to anyone "forcing" me to take any advice here. You help prove my point; you're being critical, but simply don't know what you're talking about. You keep making assertions that are not supported by the facts. If that's the type of advice you dole out, wow, very helpful!

i'm personally greatfull for the help on this forum that i have received, simply doing a google search dosen't work all the time but having experianced expats giving advice and helpong out does.

We had an instance a couple of days ago of the Canadian embassy giving a poster 100% the wrong information. So much for official sources.
Sammy *******
@Stuart ********
so true, because, of course, no one on FB is ever incorrect.
Stuart *********
@Sammy ******
nope. There’s lots of people incorrect here too. But so are official sources. As an adult you have to make informed choices on who to believe. I can’t help you on that one. It’s your call.

To apply for the visa in country you need a balance of at least 800k shown as to have come from overseas. There is no seasoning on the initial visa application. You’ll get a 90 visa. As that’s winding down you apply for the yearly extension. It’s then the money will have needed to be seasoned for 2 months and must stay above 800k for three months afterwards. The balance may not go below 400k for the rest of the year and needs to go back up to over 800k two months before your next application.

- OK, thank you. How early must we apply for the visa? We are aware of transferwise (wise now). Do you know if a counter withdrawal from our American debit card can be deposited into our Thai account and will it be seen as a transfer from overseas?

@Bonnie ******
from my understanding, and just like a marriage extension, the bt800,000 can come from anywhere. It doesn't have to come from overseas. The monthly option of bt65,000 must come from overseas, but not the bt800,000 deposit option.
Stuart *********
@Kool ******
for an extension it can come from anywhere. You just need the amount as a balance. For the initial application for a non O visa in country it must come from abroad

@Bonnie ******
I certainly don’t think a withdrawal from a credit card would be seen as an international transfer. Wise is an option if you bank with Bangkok Bank and choose when transferring funds the option that reads something like “long term residence”. This will show as an international transfer. For all other banks it will look like an internal transfer. You may be able to get your bank to write a letter confirming it came from overseas.

@Bonnie ******
You need to apply for it NO LATER then 15 days before your existing extension of stay expires.
