TLDR : Answer Summary
When considering whether to apply for a visa in person or online in Jakarta, there are several pros and cons to each method. Applying in person generally allows for faster processing, the ability to pay upon issuance, and immediate feedback from embassy staff, which can be helpful if additional documents are needed. However, online applications require payment upfront and can take longer, with the risk of rejection without guidance or immediate resolution for issues. As Jakarta is transitioning to an eVisa system, applying before the change could be beneficial for those preferring in-person interaction.
You get feedback in person, online you don’t have to sit around in a que, but if you forget something, they may email you asking for it, may just reject it, up to them. And could be as silly as wrong embassy form (so vietnam, not jakarta), not having a middle name on the application etc.
If you’re well prepared and planning to submit way more than necessary and you are confident, then evisa is fine.
You also get to respond in person if the staff requires more documents or an explanation of your situation. I don't know if my recent application in Taipei would have been approved were I not be there to understand and address the issues raised
