Be aware that Jakarta will change to eVisa system this month.

You get feedback in person, online you don’t have to sit around in a que, but if you forget something, they may email you asking for it, may just reject it, up to them. And could be as silly as wrong embassy form (so vietnam, not jakarta), not having a middle name on the application etc.

If you’re well prepared and planning to submit way more than necessary and you are confident, then evisa is fine.

You also get to respond in person if the staff requires more documents or an explanation of your situation. I don't know if my recent application in Taipei would have been approved were I not be there to understand and address the issues raised

In person seems faster generally, you can apply with family all together and you pay when you get the visa.

Online you pay ahead even if you fail and takes generally longer.

Each embassy is a separate universe with its own rules and requirements, some require more, some less.

You don't choose in person or online, it's the embassy that is OR online OR in person.
