Just received my OA visa in Australia. Where can I find out all the rules to this visa officially? I can’t find anything on the Canberra page. Nor was anything sent with my visa. Eg my requirements for reporting. I have read it can be extended into a second year. Where is everyone else getting confirmed information from the Thai authorities please?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The OP has recently received their OA visa in Australia and is seeking official rules and information regarding this visa. They specifically mention difficulties finding official resources, such as reporting requirements and extension rules. Community comments elaborate on aspects of the OA visa, including the necessity for health insurance to maintain visa validity, the importance of obtaining re-entry permits before leaving Thailand, and the obligation to report to local immigration offices. Overall, there is no singular official document outlining all details for the Non-OA visa, as it varies based on police orders and related immigration guidelines.

and I think the O/P has more than enough information to either make the correct decisions on their OA visa or to be thoroughly confused 😛

We are done, thanx everyone for your comments, good luck to the O/P (y)

in order to get the maximum benefit of that 2nd Year, don't forget to have a fresh insurance policy validity for a full year before entering Thailand on the last entry of the original validity of the Non–OA.

Then, after making entry into Thailand, don't forget to obtain a Re–Entry Permit (Single or Multiple) before exiting Thailand in order to continue to make use of that 2nd Year

When getting the 2nd year entry, you must buy a single or multiple re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay stamp alive if you plan on leaving the country. The multiple entry benefit of the original visa is not carried over once the visa validity date has expired.

Yes if you exit and recenter Thailand you’ll be stamped back in for 1 year as long as you have insurance for a second full year so if you have 6 months insurance you’ll get 6 months once you get your bank account sorted you might want to switch to a non-o as no insurance,medical statements or police reports so on your 3 year you’ll need to show funds in Thailand

@Bob *********
unfortunately you cannot switch from a Non OA to a Non O visa inside of Thailand.

@Rob *********
no you have to exit and re enter I did it a few years back and glad I did

@Bob *********
yes, but I said you cannot go from the Non OA to the Non O in country, you advised the OP in your reply that they could switch visas, without mentioning they must leave Thailand to break the chain of the OA , just be a bit careful when giving information as your reply was very misleading.

At entry into Thailand during the visa validity you get a 365 days of Admitted to stay OR until the last day of your health insurance, which ever comes first.

So be aware that you have at least a 1 year valid insurance if you want to re-enter Thailand during the visa validity.

At arriving at an address you need to report that stay at that address at the local Immigration Office, your hotel or land lord may do this but discuss this with them.

IF you stay 90 days consecutive inside Thailand you need to report this at your local Immigration Office.

There is not one document that covers all of those regarding only Non-OA. Those are on police orders with partial revisions. You have to follow all related police orders if you want to see exact official documents. You can check the Immigration Bureau for some of those.

You need to check all related and pick what is related to you by yourself.

But here are some that may related to you.

- Every foreigner who stays longer than 90 days on a Non-immigrant basis visa or extension is obligated to report 90 days

- All multiple-entry visas including Non-OA let you enter Thailand for visa-specific length until the last day of visa validity (<- this is how Non-OA visa holders get a "second" year and not an extension)

- You can apply for an extension at the end of the "permitted to stay" period at the local immigration office for the same reason for the visa by meeting the requirements of the extension that are not the same as the visa itself (<- this is different from second year directly from visa)

so to get the second year, all you have to do is exit Thailand and return before your first year is up? You don’t have to apply for anything anywhere? This is all just done at the immigration officer who serves you when you return to Thailand? Is there any set length of time before expiring that this should be done? Eg, only in the last so many days of your original expirey date? Or anytime? Thanks for your advice.

@Sam ****
, as long as you meet the requirements for Non-OA, ie insurance. As mentioned, you might need a new insurance policy.

A valid Non-OA gives you an earlier date of 365 days or insurance validity upon entry. This is the same you enter on the first day or last day of Non-OA. You need insurance covers for the length you want to be stamped in.

so just show up to the immigration line at the airport returning back into Thailand a few days before my visa runs out, with my insurance and they will stamp me in for another year. Have I got that correct? Thanks for this help.

@Sam ****
, yes, that's correct

just so you remember it's the VISA <- the PDF from the thai consulate's expiration date NOT the small entry stamp you got when you stamped in to thailand's expiration 😉

Many people mix those two up and end up losing their ability to get that "second year" entry stamp

@Tod ********
That's exactly what I did - I had new insurance, but was 3 days past my "visa" expiry coming back in, so only got stamped in for 60 days. Got extension for 30, then flew back to Oz to re-apply for the visa all over again. I did need to go back, but the timing was a bit off for me and I will certainly not make that mistake again.
