Hey everyone, enjoy reading the posts here. I’m heading over to Thailand mid to end of July for around 5 weeks. Coming from Australia. Not a big partier. Would love to travel around a bit see as much as I can. And meet the local people. My question is quite broad, wondering what are the must see places to visit Also wondering if there might be something that needs to be done that often gets forgotten in preperation for the trip, even if you think it might be the simplest of things? Anybody recommend a travel insurance that’s suited for Thailand. Also thanks in advance for any replies.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses travel plans to Thailand for an Australian expat, highlighting a desire to explore the country and meet locals during a 5-week visit. It seeks recommendations for must-see places and any often-overlooked preparations for the trip. Comments suggest popular areas like Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket, mention the importance of cultural respect, travel insurance options, and necessary documentation like an International Driver's License and TDAC. Overall, a mix of personal experiences and practical tips are shared to help prepare for the trip.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be tdac.in.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

This is touristy, but…

My first trip was Phuket - Fitness street with all the Muay Thai camps, Big Buddha and Promthep Cape. And went to a Muay Thai fight night.

Second Trip was Bangkok- stayed in riverside area and took the Chao Phraya river boat to all the stops- don’t miss Wat Arun and Royal (Grand) Palace

International driver's licence maybe. If driving here do not expect rule compliance as in Oz,and just go with the flow.

thank you I think I will leave the driving to the locals. I was in Brazil a few years ago😳scary. Don’t know if it’s true or not but I was told they have a motor cycle death every day somewhere in Brazil. Thanks

there is no worries about me not respecting the Thai people or their culture. Thanks Tom👍🏼. I’ve been trying to learn Thai for the last year or so but my head is like a sieve.

I have been several times from Oz. It depends on what you want to experience.

I love the scenery and temples around CHIANG Mai and Chiang Rai. There are wonderful things to do and huge variety. Last time I was fascinated by an insect farm where the large insects look like leaves and the beautiful orchid farms.

The temples are varied too.

The Royal Palace in Bangkok is amazing.

The Thai people are lovely.

Research and choose what you want to see.
