TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a 60-day tourist stamp and is experiencing delays with the Chiang Rai immigration office regarding their yellow book application. In light of potential delays, they are inquiring about the latest information on crossing into Laos and back, particularly related to border runs for extending their stay. Commenters clarify that the yellow book is unrelated to immigration rights and suggest applying for a 30-day extension instead.

Yellow books aren't related to immigration, the amphur office issues them. Why are immigration sending things?

local district checks with immigration..local district office no problems ...head of village....and.. Wife's father present their info...as did wife..everyone sign .multiple copies..immigration is the problem..local district is just waiting for immigration why local district needs report from immigration is up to district.

I was honestly wondering the same thing

yes, it's a little confusing. I also didn't think you could get them using a tourist visa as well

that part will be up the amphur. Each one has their own requirements. Some are trivially easy while some are actually impossible and won't do it at all. There are hundreds or thousands of amphur across Thailand and each gets to make their own rules

Ah that makes sense. I went to ask what was needed for me at the Amphur Office at Yan Nawa, they needed my arm and leg, plus a witness they will interview. Will get round to doing it one day haha

I believe it's one night required in Laos but might be 2. Still a little unclear in that area.

But what does your yellow book have to do with you staying in Thailand? A yellow book doesn't give you any new rights you don't already have.

Just apply for the 30 day tourist extension from immigration if you wanted more time in Thailand.

also not particularly pleased with the chiang rai immigration ofc... I have never spoken while in the office..always kept neutral expression .. my wife speculated they are wanting money..

Someone else posted a couple months ago that the Chiang Rai immigration office refused to let them even apply for the marriage visa after they had all the requirements. Impossible to know the full story, but you might want to look at alternatives.

I after observing the head lady at the immigration office..I suspect that she is the problem...there is nothing pleasant about her demeanor.. while I do not speak thai much.. I rely on careful attention to the non verbal and the intonation of the words spoken. After observation of her autocratic interaction with her subordinates.. she is the abuser of her position..

yellow book necessary to obtain bank account.. for future marriage visa

@Jack ****
Why don't you just get the visa at the embassy in Laos and be done with it? Once you have the visa it should be easier to get the bank account.
