The discussion revolves around the experiences of expatriates using UOB and other banks in Thailand. There are mixed opinions about UOB, with some users expressing satisfaction with customer service and convenient account management, while others report challenges and frustrations. Users also mention that all Thai banks issue official statements for immigration purposes and compare the efficiency of different banks, including Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank. Additionally, there is concern about reliance on AI-generated information and the availability of certain banking services, especially regarding international transfers.
Far too rich for my blood. Check out their minimum balance requirements.

We went to the one in Central Mall to open an account and they refused me. I wonder if I should go to another UOB… We went to other banks in the mall with the same results. I’m checking into visa assistance on
Can we have a sub rule that AI generated info cannot be posted? It's not verified!!!

UOB took over my account from CitiBank and since then it has been nothing but grief.
The staff are great, most helpful but the are kneecapped by the obsessive systems imposed by Singapore. Those staff taken over from CitiBank agree!
Every time I login to online banking there is a notice of impending shutdown of one system or another for maintenance. In my opinion Bangkok Bank are a better option.
I have a friend from Hong Kong with UOB for 20 years and they say the same. I suppose I just got used to Citi after 25 years! Best bank I have ever been with.

Kasikorn bank gave me the document I needed for IO... 3 hundred baht... had to deposit one hundred baht to ensure update was current..
Bangkok Bank still issues letters for retirees. I got one about ten days ago. Plus the annual statements you can now order through the app, and they are emailed to you the next day which saves going into the bank branch. Very convenient
Yes. But I not had best experience with the bank lately. They refused to give the bank letter, too busy, come back tomorrow, when I was all set to go to immigration. A few weeks before, I had to go to the bank to do a transfer on someone else's Thai Bank account. It was 2.30 pm, waited one hour and a half. When my turn, they refused to do the transfer. Reason? I should have asked before 11 am. Not see why. I not asked for cash, so just had to put all in their computer. Yesterday got a message in my bank app, to agree on all new terms. Strange.
the best is, never touch the 800,000 THB in your account. If your buddy did follow this simple rule, Bangkok Bank won't have any problem issuing the bank letter for Immigration confirming the 2-months seasoning of a minimum of 800,000 THB
this is his operating account where only comes in and goes out. He never falls below ฿800k. This is his 2nd extension so the bank can see his history over 2.5 years. The bank says its immigration rule but the II says its not. That's why I'm trying to help him.
Not if you use the 65k transfer method. It's only 400k which is frozen, and to meet extension criteria you must have this minimum in your account throughout the year anyway. I can't see the problem
mate im helping him at the moment as he can't get any sense from the branch in Petchabun which is a 4-hour round trip from Chon Daeng where he lives. I've got a manager in Head office calling me back. He did ask from a statement to renew his retirement extension. Yep sounds fantasy but its happenned to him. Now here's something a lawyer posted s few days ago.
It's designed to stop the agents using the banks to obtain their dodgy extensions. The bank knows many will withdraw the money immediately the extension has been issued. If immigration are saying "nothing to do with us" it's probably time for immigration to call "last orders" on these dodgy retirement extensions
they can see his history. Its his bloody money and yes the bank lady said its immigration but when he went there and talked to the IO that he's known ever since he got the retirement visa and extension she said this isn't immigration policy.
