Have made arrangements to travel to Thailand on 30 June for 90 days.

Im from the UK.

How likely is it that the exemption reduction from 60 to 30 days happens before i start my travel. Im actually flying into Thailand from India and have planned for a 90 day stay.
Answer summary
A UK citizen plans to travel to Thailand for 90 days starting June 30 and is concerned about a potential reduction in visa exemptions from 60 to 30 days. The conversation suggests applying for a tourist visa (either a 60-day visa with a 30-day extension or a 90-day NON-O visa if over 50). It is mentioned that while changes are being discussed, no official implementation is confirmed yet. Applying for a visa now is widely recommended to avoid complications, as approval may take time and the government may face an influx of applications.

I flew to Vietnam, it isn't expensive, then re-entered Thailand, no problems and Vietnam offered another culture to my list.

Just get a damn visa. Hell the METV visa is good for 6 months with 60 day stays and 30 day extensions. Its multiple entry so you can come and go as much as you want for 6 months.

I strongly recommend applying for a visa now that meets your time needs. Costs a few baht, takes a little time and filling out a few forms. Do this while you have the luxury of time to do this at home, without stress. But do not delay in case extra time for forms or information is requested. The suggestion of going to immigration for an extension seems OK BUT, that means taking time out of your travels here to find and go to a government agency that does not do appointments where there is a risk of running into Disneyland lines, with the risk that going one time will not be enough. (That has happened to me before.) This takes time and relaxation from your time here. There are attendant costs for getting to and from the agency after locating it, paying for the place you are staying for a day or two to do the extension business instead of paying for it for your vacation. Costs which you could apply to the payment for a visa on line. If you plan to be a regular visitor here, I found my time better spent finding an agent and getting an extendable visa with their help after getting the visa on line before you come. Then time your future visits so that one happens during the extension window. This is a wonderful place to visit when you do not have to hassle with the government. I am not rich, but I make a budget for the cost of my visa and an agent when needed. Has been worth every penny each time in terms of time efficiency and stress reduction. I now live here full time, after about 25 visits of varying lengths. I have gone through 4 types of visas. The tourist visa on entry, a marriage visa, a multiple entry retirement visa and now a 10 year pensioner (I am 73) Long Term Resident visa. My goal is not to try to tell you what to do but simply pass on some ideas which may make your visit a better and less stressed time.

From what is written in the Thai news is that it will take a minimum of 15 days to become law. So from the start of June is the most likely outcome.

I feel for you as I have an extended visit that I had already bought my ticket for. It would be nice if they would grandfather anyone who bought tickets prior to change. But I think a tourist visa is in my near future.

Roger Mcintyre Is Khaosod news more official than the Royal Gazette ?

Gary Joe of course not - after 29 years in Thailand, I know the steps towards a law change and implementation.

I never said it had been gazetted but I only gave information that news reports are coming out now saying Government had approved the move.

My advice to travelers relying on visa-free entry to Thailand is to have a “plan B” ready, in case this new change is signed off and registered in the gazette and implemented at any time.

If you’re passed 50 years get a 90 days Non O visa, or else apply for a 60 days tourist visa and do a 30 days local extension.

Alan Rothwell my plan was to get the 60 day exemption then a 30 day extension.

Any ideas if there is a pattern of any sort that would indicate how long after an approval they woul publish the change.

I wanted to avoid a border run.
