Has anyone done driven from Bangkok-Chiang Mai by private car? If so, are they are check-points along the way due to 2nd Covid wave?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses recent travel experiences from Bangkok to Chiang Mai by private car during the second Covid wave. Participants share that there are checkpoints along the route, particularly mentioning a checkpoint in Lampang known for 'tea money' requests. Although some travelers observed checkpoints mostly stopping commercial vehicles, concerns over quarantine requirements were raised, indicating that travel from Bangkok to Chiang Mai necessitates a 14-day quarantine, emphasized by the need for documents from ASQ hotels. Clarifications were sought about ASQ experiences and travel protocols.

I've done it several times, but not since covid. There was always a check point anyway in Lampang (tea money!). I'd be interested to hear also.

My Scottish friend was stopped for "speeding" in Bangkok and told to pay a fine ... he turned to his wife, saying (in broad Glaswegian) "tell him tae fuck off". I'm not quite so brave ... yet.
