Answer summary
If you're locked out of your Australian bank account while in Thailand and need to make international calls, there are several options you can consider. First, ensure your Thai SIM card is set up for international calls by visiting a True store if necessary. You can also use various apps like Mytello, Yolla, and Talk360, which provide cheap international calling rates over Wi-Fi. If your bank does not accept WhatsApp for calls, you may need to use traditional calling methods. Ensure to gain international access through the appropriate prefix codes, such as 006 for True Mobile, and consider maintaining your Aussie number for Wi-Fi calling. Downloading apps that facilitate cheap calls can also help minimize costs when contacting banks. Users also recommend reaching out to True for assistance in setting up international dialing.

You might need to go into a True store and get them to set it up to allow international calling. That's what I had to do. Remember to take your passport.
The main hack is to maintain Australian number so you can do wifi calling and receive OTP codes. But hard since your in Thailand but I use $2 Aldi sim with $15 pay as you go credit with 365 days expiry.
I am on AIS but process should be similar on True. Configure everything in their app. International calls may be an add on.
