TLDR : Answer Summary
Applying for a Thai bank account can facilitate your financial transactions such as paying rent. Key tips include:
1. **Required Documents**: Bring your passport, a non-tourist visa (like a Non-Immigrant or retirement visa), proof of residence, and possibly a work permit or reference letter.
2. **Choose a Bank**: Popular options include Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, and Siam Commercial Bank. Visit a branch in person, as online application may not be available for foreigners.
3. **Account Setup**: Be prepared for a minimum deposit and fill out necessary forms upon submitting documents. Language assistance can be helpful, and consider online banking options post set-up.
4. **Consider Alternatives**: For those struggling to open an account due to visa issues, options like using services such as WISE or employing agencies that facilitate account opening may be viable.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
Or turn up at any bank with a bag full of cash, especially foreign currency of £€$ and ask them can I leave my money here and if there's enough of it I doubt they'll refuse you an account. 😆

Get an agent.. pay about 3500 baht. They will do the process for you.
Doesn't matter what visa you have.
I had mine done on a visa exempt a few years back.
Things have changed a lot just in the last 2-3 weeks. The prices are now 12-15,000 for a new bank account from an agent.

I did the DTV visa as I thought it would be easier, which it was - originally, I was going to get a standard retirement visa, which needs a Thai bank account for you to deposit money.
I have WISE and can use that and Starling offer very low rates to use contactless. its not the end of the world, but would be handy - wonder if you can apply for a retirement visa and have a DTV running - I guess not.. I dont mind paying an agency to help
due to the recent strict rules of opening bank acct....many are advised to apply for the 90days non O in their hone country and once they get their visa they come to thailand and open bank acct and transfer funds to the thai acct for yearly extension

It's almost impossible if you don't have a work permit Or non O visa to open a bank acct and I have seen many manage without a thai bank acct in thailand Wise, revoult debit card? Add your landlord's bank acct to WISE and u can send directly
so untrue. Almost any visa agent will find a way for the right price. Wise and Revolut are fine but also have fees associated with withdrawing if you need.
u don't have to believe what I say u try opening one yourself...GOOD LUCK.....I opened my acct with a tourist visa (No agent) few years back and yet recently they want me to visit the bank and update my phone numbers and particulars
I didn’t say anything about opening one myself. Just said that your info was wrong. It’s not “almost impossible”. Yes they are doing this with most accounts I believe (asking to verify particulars)

You can not get a bank account in Thai without some visa better than 60 days stamp.
Might, some agencies can open your account, the going rate is 4-5 thosuand THB.
, opening a Thai bank account is indeed a practical step for managing expenses like rent. Here's a guide to help you through the process:
Required Documents:
Passport: A valid passport is essential.
Visa: Most banks require a non-tourist visa, such as a Non-Immigrant visa.
Work Permit (if applicable): If you're employed in Thailand, a work permit is necessary.
Proof of Residence: A lease agreement or utility bill showing your Thai address.
Reference Letter (if applicable): Some banks may request a reference letter from your home country's bank or the Thai embassy.
Steps to Open an Account:
Choose a Bank: Major banks like Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, and Siam Commercial Bank are popular among foreigners.
Visit a Branch: Go to a branch in person; some banks may not allow online applications for foreigners.
Submit Documents: Provide all required documents. Initial Deposit: Be prepared to make a minimum deposit, typically around 500 to 1,000 THB.
Complete Forms: Fill out the necessary application forms provided by the bank staff.
Receive Account Details: Once approved, you'll receive your account number and a debit card.
Additional Tips:
Language Barrier: While many bank staff speak English, it's helpful to have a Thai-speaking friend assist you if possible.
Banking Hours: Most banks are open Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Online Banking: After account setup, consider registering for online banking to manage payments conveniently.
Having a Thai bank account will simplify your financial transactions and reduce currency exchange hassles. It's advisable to contact the bank beforehand to confirm specific requirements, as they can vary.
