I am in the process of getting a ” marriage visa” but have run into a lot of bureaucracy both here locally and at the relevant embassy.

Anyone knows about a serious consultant/agent with normal prices here in Hua hin where we could get help with handling the paperwork

They are seeking recommendations for reputable consultants or agents in Hua Hin who can assist with necessary procedures like bank account setup and marriage registration. Claus Svensson You wrote in the original poster that you are in Hua Hin and want to get a ”Marriage Visa”. But you inform also later that you run into issues with the relevant embassy which I believe can be the Swedish seeing your name.

1. You apply for a Non-O Visa based on marriage from outside Thailand. When you passing through Immigration when entering Thailand the Visa is cancelled and you instead get a ”Stay Permit of 90-days” stamped into your passport.

2. You can then visit a local immigration office in Thailand when you have less than 30 or 45 days (not knowing about what the Hua Hin local requirements are?) remaining of the 90-days Permit to Stay. And thus get a ”1-Year Extension of Stay (of the Stay Permit)”

Note! That’s if all requirements are meet and there are quite a few such…Some call the 1-year extension of stay incorrectly for a marriage visa. Is not!

The Swedish Embassy in Bangkok did f.y.i. stop to issue certificates from 1 September 2025 for registering marriages to a Thai national when the marriage did take place in Sweden.

As can be seen there are quite a few steps to be done before to travel to Thailand for be able to register the marriage in Thailand. That the marriage is registered in Thailand is required as to get a 1-year extension of stay based on married with a Thai national. And as I remember if just been married it has to be gone more than 60 days before the marriage can be registered also in Thailand.

Many takes help by an agent for the steps in Thailand and to not having to go to Bangkok etc.

Khomkhai Ward 1. IN THE UK: Marriage certificate legalised by the FCDO in Milton Keynes (2 documents, original and legalised copy))

2. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO Translated (2 translations from 1., now 4 documents in total)

3. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO AND their translations verified by the Thai Embassy in London (4 verifications from 1. and 2. giving 8 documents in total)

4. IN THAILAND: All the above (i.e. all 4 documents & their translations, making 8 in total) Legalised by MFA in Bangkok,

then register your marriage at your local Amphur.

An embassy is only relevant if you are applying outside of Thailand. You can apply inside Thailand at most immigration offices if you are on a tourist entry or visa exempt entry and already have a Thai bank account and between 15 and 21 days left on your current stamp. There's really no bureaucracy to have a problem with, you meet the requirements, you apply and you get issued a visa. What exactly are you having an issue with?

, i am not having problems with a thai embassy just the local embassy of the country where we got married.

Anyway, I am just looking for somebody to take care of visiting banks for getting the bank account, the amphur for getting the marriage registered etc, etc. I just don’t have the patience for this stuff.

if you weren't married in Thailand there are a number of hoops you need to jump through before the amphur will issue a marriage certificate. So you first need to get your marriage certificate apostilled in the country you were married in, then you need to get it authorised by the Thai consulate in that country. Once the documentation is back in Thailand you need it approved by the MFA in bangkok and finally you can go to the amphur with everything and get the marriage certificate.

If you're 50 or older you may find it easier just to go with a Non-O based on age and subsequent extensions based on retirement, at least in the short term

Penny Nave Yes, this is the process for someone married in the UK (the steps and process will be similar for other nationalities) -

1. IN THE UK: Marriage certificate legalised by the FCDO in Milton Keynes (2 documents, original and legalised copy))

2. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO Translated (2 translations from 1., now 4 documents in total)

3. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO AND their translations verified by the Thai Embassy in London (4 verifications from 1. and 2. giving 8 documents in total)

then register your marriage at your local Amphur.

, My marriage certificate has been apostilled years ago for getting a residence permit for my wife in EU. Thailand has not finally accepted this convention yet according to a lawyer friend so we have to get it legalized according to the ”old” system.

My sources (local immigration) say that I do not need to get it authorised by the Thai embassy in the country we married. They say I just need to bring it to the embassy of the marriage country in Thailand and then to the MFA in Bangkok. Please comments on this

I don't know what country you were married in so can't comment on what the embassy will or will not do. In my view even if you have an old apostilled copy you still have to get it authorised by the Thai consulate in that country and by the MFA in Thailand.

, it is not about old or new apostille but about that Thailand does not accept the apostille concept (at least that what I been told)

In any case, as mentioned earlier, I am just looking for somebody to carry out the moving of the paperwork i.e. going/making appointments at the embassy, amphur, MFA etc. as I am not patient enought for that stuff.

you've been misinformed. The apostille process is clearly acceptable and many people have done it successfully
