How can I upgrade my TrueMoney Wallet for QR payments with a DTV visa?

Want to scan with QR to pay? There’s a solution! TrueMoney Wallet supports PromptPay… as long as you upgrade to an Advanced Account!

It took me a while to figure out how to upgrade because it always seemed to fail, plus it took a handful of chats with customer service to get good answers. I finally got it working! So I thought I would share the solution, and the reason!

FYI, this worked for a DTV visa with an American passport. I don’t know every solution for every visa or country, so I can’t promise this will work for everyone. But, this will probably help for a bunch of situations!

First, of course, create a True Money Wallet account. Next, when upgrading, pick the document that applies, for me it was Non-Immigrant Visa.

For work, put “freelancer,” and/or for location, put “home.”

Next, you will submit two photos for proof:

1. A photo of your e-visa (printout or a picture of your computer screen displaying the visa)

2. A picture of your visa stamp passport page (such as the DTV stamp) NEXT TO YOUR FACE!!!!! That part is very important and this missing bit of info required to complete the step.

Why do you have to take a picture of the stamp page next to your face? According to the support agent that helped me, it’s because American passports, for example, do not show the passport number on that page. Because that information is missing, they require a second bit of information in the photo, such as your face.

Please do not ask me to explain the logic here, because I absolutely will not be able to. But, I can tell you for a fact that this worked for me!

Good luck, I hope it helps those in need!

Can you top up using a overseas credit card Or link a overseas credit card to pay for purchase? Withdrawing cash to top up the wallet seems troublesome....

Moreta pay is also super useful but only works with business accounts which most of the businesses don’t actually use

Why do people still promote TruePay?

You can’t top up with your overseas bank, and need to use cash to top up at 7-11 which defeats the entire purpose…

Just use Moreta…

Are you guys paid to get people to use TrueMoney or something?

Anonymous participant 577 you must not understand the extreme convenience of being cashless and cardless, as everyone always has their phone on them. Since QR/Promptpay is universally accepted, it is much easier than carrying cash. My guess is that you must come from a country like the USA where people still commonly use cash rather than topped up QR codes, as cash transactions are more and more rare in many countries.

it is not “extreme convenience”. It’s very marginal… the only thing I need cash for is the occasional street vendor that only hs personal QR. for everything else it’s Moreta or Wise.

It’s ironic that you talk about the “extreme convenience” of cashless, yet you literally need to get cash out to use TruePay 🤦‍♂️

And no, I’m from a modern cashless country, not USA

baht and top up your True Wallet once every month or two or however long it lasts vs. carrying

baht around until it is used up, or withdrawing multiple times to get cash as you need it? You do know True Wallet holds 50,000 baht maximum, right?

This. Cash topups. Pointless giving your personal information to another provider when you could have used the cash to pay those who use personal qr codes.

They probably prefer cash anyway. That's why they are not a business.

Anonymous participant 577 I brought cash with me which I exchange at superrich for the best rate. Once I got the cash I can top my wallet up to 30k which is good for awhile. Besides of paying QR, I can can get a Thai virtual debit card, I can pay online platforms such as Lazada, shoppee, grab and so on. I can get money transferred on my wallet by showing my qr code and I got 30 free scan pay to private for free. I can top up my MRT card, pay my phone bills. Since I don't have a local bank account, true money is the best app I can get.

you can literally do all of that without truepay, directly from your home bank without the withdrawal fees…

I transfer direct from my euro bank to Moreta, no fees. The use Moreta to pay by scan. The only thing not covered for the next few months is personal qrs which are tiny amounts that I carry change for.

All the other things can be paid through your own debit card or bank cc

Anonymous participant 577 I got 2 banks account back where I live which I NEVER use cuz they charge very high fees for all those transactions made abroad. The transactions with true money are super fast while those using moreta often have to wait way longer. Truemoney has his back covered by true which is a huge company here in Thailand and it's less likely to have issues or go bankrupt. Anyways, as u stated there are dozens of people using that app on this page and everyone is highly satisfied with it and I'm one of them. I'm not trying to change your mind but just giving my point of view to op which seems interested

Anonymous participant 577 doesn’t defeat the purpose. It’s literally the only way to pay with QR to a personal account. It’s massively helpful in day to day life.

DTV Dude but you have to withdraw cash just to load the account… just pay cash for the few things that are personal QR.

For all the rest of scan pay, use Moreta which will also work with personal QR next year.

You can top up 30k thb in à Truemoney account in one time. It lasts forever for me since I use it only for personal QRs which are not covered at the moment by Moreta. Moreta has been speaking about enabling personal QRs since last year and postponed it several times. So don’t hold your breath too much on this.

Believe me it’s very nice to carry zero cash around: personal QRs are covered by Truemoney and business QRs can be paid everywhere with my phone and Apple Pay (linked to my Wise or Revolut card).

Moreover , I can pay totally cashless at any

: below 200 thb I use my Truemoney account (I just bought a 33 thb juice: good luck to pay with cash haha ), and above 200 thb I use Apple Pay .

Moreta in my case is totally useless. Do you work for Moreta ? I won’t be surprised haha

The problem I have with not having a QR code is that some local restaurants and other providers only use QR code to deliver and I don't want to drive in the rain. I imagine this is a better solution that the Tour n Go card which only allows you to use foreign cash to buy a pre-loaded card and only cash to to up an their exchange booths.

Anonymous participant 577 Moreta doesn’t work right now for Personal QR which defeat the purpose. You might as well use the card directly instead of using Moreta.

Do you get paid to get people to use Moreta?

if you don’t have enough money to cover a few baht for a food stall, why are you even here?

Moreta can be used at all businesses and can be topped up directly from your own home bank account or cc.

You mindless potatoes that pay to withdraw cash, then take it to a 711 just to top up an app to pay for something you could have just used cash for 🤡

Maybe sort out your own logic first before trying to talk down to people.

Been using it for a few months already on my DTV. Until November 6th it was even better as they supported paying with non-Thai cards also. Very useful not only to pay QRs (I could already do that with my Korean bank) but to transfer or receive money in Thailand.

Remember they have monthly limit 30 scans to personal Promptpay QR like street vendors. Once over the limit, they charge 25THB per scan.

for business Promptpay QR scan, it’s unlimited. (Eg. shopping malls, QR with the business name)

Otherwise, it’s truly useful for people who can’t have bank account
