Hey, chris here!

We are looking at getting DTV and going Phuket way.

Any recommendation?

We an are ~30 couple, British and Canadian. We like peacefulness, walking distance to massage places, gyms and spas etc, also good amenities like cinema etc.

Also how much cost $ is it roughly to furnish a 3 bed house ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
User is seeking recommendations for peaceful areas in Phuket suitable for a British-Canadian couple, along with inquiries about costs for furnishing a 3-bedroom house. Comments suggest that most rentals in Phuket come furnished and advise on potential alternative locations such as Hua Hin for a quieter lifestyle and better budgeting. Additional tips include using local Thai house rental websites and Facebook Marketplace for finding accommodations.

Also hopefully youโ€™re not time bound to Canada time for working. Pain in the ass working on North America time out here. Do able but gets old.

You're looking for peacefulness on an island connected to the mainland via a bridge and with a population of about 416,000 and visited by about 8.7million tourists (2024)? Really? Stay as far as you can from spots like Patong if a piecefull life is important. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

choose where in Phuket you live as the tourist areas charge alot more. Most rentals come furnished in tourist areas. Get on a Thai house rental site and do your search in Thai.

Good luck

Facebook marketplace is a good place to check out rentals and get an idea of what's available and price ranges. You can also start with a short term stay at an Airbnb or hotel and search for a place to live after you arrive. Phuket is a pretty large island, so unless you're completely familiar with the island, I would check it out first before committing to anything long term.

I can't but I'm on 3 Thai rental sites in Buriram. Use Google and in Thai write Thai house rentals

Phuket is one of the most expensive places in Thailand for foreigners (Tourists and Expats) and so are most of southern islands like Koh Samui..

If you are thinking of living on a budget then Phuket or anywhere in the south is a very poor choice..

Mainland beach locations are generally cheaper than places like Phuket or Koh Samui etc..

You may want to consider Hua Hin as an option as it very popular with retired Expats and foreigners staying long term and has excellent amenities and infrastructure and only 3 to 4 hours from Bangkok and a nice beach location..

You can get to Hua Hin by Bus, Train or even taxi from Bangkok.

Lots of long term accommodation options available in all price ranges.

Or if you want something quieter and more laid back then perhaps Cha Am just a little North of Hua Hin or maybe Prachuap khiri khan which is south of Hua Hin..

If you are planning on long term living in Thailand then you really need to do some research and visit a few places to be certain they are right for you.

thanks mate.

Itโ€™s not so much on a budget we are relocating from Canada, so we can match that budget level but live a greater quality of life for maybe even less!

Don't underestimate how much its going to cost to live comfortably in Thailand..

Yes, I am certain its cheaper than Canada and most developed western countries but you may be surprised how quickly you can burn money especially if you are living in a very popular tourist location paying tourist/Forienger premiums on everything..

Just manage your budget expectations very carefully would be my advice..

Good luck ๐Ÿ‘

My wife and I are in Rawai-Nai Harn. I'm a Kiwi. Message me if you like. I can give you some help/advice.

Most places in Phuket are furnished, if not check out IKEA website get rough idea of costs of things. Rawai sounds like an area for you no cinema though but can get bus ride into town

Are you sure the house is un furnished as most of them are furnished in Thailand?
