What are my visa options in Thailand considering my long stay and recent tourist visa?

I'm trying to figure out what to do about my visa. I've been here 1.5 years on covid stamps. Then did a visa run to Malaysia over two months ago and got a tourist visa. They also gave me a blue stamp above saying I've been in Thailand long time and may get denied next time. My visa expires December 28th.

Options. Do a border run to Malaysia and get a 45 day visa exempt instead this time. Go up north to Cambodia or Laos where i heard the border is easier.

Also does it make a difference if I stay abroad until after December 31st? Does it start over in the new year, how many visas I'm allowed to have?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about their visa options in Thailand after an extended stay under COVID-19 related stamps and a recent tourist visa obtained in Malaysia. They are considering further border runs to Malaysia, Cambodia, or Laos, and are unsure how their visa status might change after December 31st. Comments suggest concerns about potential entry denial due to their visa history, advice on extending their tourist visa, and considerations for alternative long-term visa options.

Considered buying an elite visa?

It might be time to consider a Plan B that doesn’t involve Thailand.

You're probably getting to the stage where you're going to have to get a visa which fits your reason for being in Thailand. With your history you're likely to be denied somewhere along the way, so perhaps do your research and look at long term options.

at this point if I were you I would avoid airports.

Second I exit and go to my embassy to get a new passport. Yes it links to your old passport but when you have a line of hundreds of people the immigration officer only looks at the stamps in your passport not your history. They will look at your history if you get called to the side.

I would contact the visa run company that leaves from OnNut Tesco Lotus parking lot. They will be able to tell you if they can do a visa run safely.

Visa expiry and your stamp until date are two different things.

What's your stamp until date?

(The date stamped in your passport when you arrived, not the date valid until on the visa)

Have you extended it since arriving?

Sadly (for you) you fall into the demographic of foreigner who is likely to be denied entry (doesn't matter if you stayed out of the country 2-3 weeks 😕 )

The only thing that starts new Jan 1 is that you get TWO free visa exempt entry stamps by land again. (You get two by land per calendar year Jan 1 - Dec 31)

You say you got a tourist visa in Malaysia, so that means you were stamped in for 60 days, take the 30 day extension on it for 1900baht and when that runs out you can border bounce for a 45 day visa exempt entry IF you can find a border that will let you out and back easily on the same day.

post on a group related to where you live asking for service providers that bounce people out and back and use one of them. They arrange so their clients get out and back in rather than trying to do it on your own, especially with your stay history here

ok I have not done any visa exempt stamps yet, so I guess that is my best bet at this point. Thank you

you could go get one visa exempt entry this year before the 31st of Dec and then after the 1st it resets and you could get two more by land next year.
