TLDR : Answer Summary
To spend 6 months in the USA and 6 months in Thailand, consider options such as the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), which allows 180 days per entry for up to 5 years. Other possibilities include a Non-O visa if you're visiting family, a Retirement visa if you meet age qualifications, or a Multi Entry Tourist visa for longer stays. It's recommended to check qualifying criteria on the Thai Embassy website for the best option.

DTV would probably be the best fit.

Yeah I was doing the same thing and I just used a retirement visa. It was a bit annoying because you needed to get criminal background checks and you needed the insurance etc. But it is doable. I'm always hoping that Thailand will create a snowbird Visa which would allow retirees to Winter in Thailand. They've talked about it in the past but so far no luck

That's for the Non-OA Visa, the Non-O does not require those things but needs an extension to stay beyond 90 days

so I'm on this site now and it says the max stay is 90 days. Can you make an extension after 90 days? It doesn't indicate that on the Thai embassy website

Yes, there is a 12 month extension which requires 800k in a Thai bank account for 2 months before you apply (or an Embassy income affidavit)

I'm just looking to come every six months , so I wouldn't need to extend in Thailand

It's difficult to stay 6 months with the usual visaswithout extending for 12 months or without border bounces but a DTV would work if you qualify

I’m planning on maintaining a non-O visiting family for this purpose.

Probably DTV is the best fit, but you need to determine whether you qualify for it.

I will be doing the same 6 in and 6 out , luckily I don’t have to deal with the visa .

DTV as others mentioned and if you want you could look into retirement visa for an alternative. You’re age qualified, why not keeping an eye out for more options.

DTV gives you 180 days per entry for 5 years. Research this option.

many ChatGPT advices regarding Thailand are wrong. Because ChatGPT sources a lot of wrong info out of the many Facebook groups, where everybody and his grandmother feel free to spread wrong info

absolutely worth while, but only if one of the few experts of the visa advice groups is catching up on the question. Sadly, the majority of the comments are stupid or wrong advice
